Fore Friday: Lewis Breaks Streak, Furyk and Scott Tame Oak Hill, and a Touch of History

Each Friday, we scour the internet looking for the very best and most interesting in the golf news and stories circulating online that week. This way,  you can always be up to date with the latest chatter when you hit the links on the weekend.

Here’s what’s happening this week in the world of golf.

Lewis Breaks Streak

Stacy Lewis Ends Park’s Major Winning Streak

While at the start of the week most of the eyes in the golfing world were on Inbee Park’s quest for four Majors in a season at St. Andrews, by the end of it, many were celebrating the win of Stacy Lewis at The Old Course. By winning, Stacy was able to break the streak of 10 straight Major victories by Asian players.

Is Stacy ready to step into the spotlight?

Furyk and Scott Battle Oak Hill

Low-Key Furyk and Sizzling Scott Tame Oak Hill

After recent performances, most were expecting to see Tiger or Phil at the top of the leaderboard as the first round at Oak Hill came to a close this week. But, the battle was between Jim Furyk, who has come out of nowhere for this tournament, and Adam Scott, the reigning Masters champion, who sunk 5 birdies in a row on the front 9.

Will they be able to hold off the pack over the weekend?

A Touch of History: The US Open

Look Back at Oak Hill’s 1968 US Open

A classic battle, the 1968 US Open was played at Oak Hill, the site of this week’s PGA Championship, and featured Lee Trevino and Jack Nicklaus sparring. Trevino ended up winning, the first of his eventual six Majors, and the legend of Oak Hill was born. This video gives you some great views of the course as the two old pros go at it.

USGA Announces Partnership with Fox Sports

USGA and Fox Sports Agree to Partnership

In a somewhat controversial move this week, USGA has announced that longtime broadcast partner NBC is out and Fox Sports is in. The 12 year, $100 million dollar deal raised many eyebrows, especially since it was announced during the PGA event at Oak Hill this week. Many are looking at the move as a money grab, since Fox has no experience with golf.

Should be interesting to see how it plays out.
