Fore Friday: Phil’s Heartbreak, Justin’s New Agent and the Hoff Dominates at Travelers

Each Friday, we scour the internet looking for the very best and most interesting in the golf news and stories circulating online that week. This way,  you can always be up to date with the latest chatter when you hit the links on the weekend.

Here’s what’s happening this week in the world of golf.

Phil’s Heartbreak

Phil Mickelson the US Open Bridesmaid

The famous phrase “always a bridesmaid, never a bride” might just have a new meaning soon, and not in reference to weddings anymore. This past week at Merion, Phil managed to do the unimaginable, came in 2nd at the Open for an amazing 6th time!

Is the US Open in his head at this point, or is he ever going to break into the winners circle?

Justin’s New Agent

Report: Justin Rose Switches to Tiger Woods’ Agent

Not only did Justin Rose’s life change after winning the US Open, so to did his back office. This week that Justin dumped his old agent in favor of a guy who knows a thing or two about representing a golf superstar, Mark Steinberg, who also represents Tiger Woods.

Is Justin looking to make the move to an international level of fame?

The Hoff Dominates Travelers

Travelers Championship 2013 Scores: Charley Hoffman Leads After Round 1

There have been rumblings of Charley Hoffman having a breakout year session soon, he was in many people’s books to be in the hunt at Merion. Well this week he is showing his stuff at the Travelers Championship in Cornwall, shooting an incredible 28 on the back 9.

Are we going to be seeing a lot more of Charley on the leader board the rest of the season?

Erin Hills: Open’s Longest Ever Course?

Erin Hills Could Become Longest Course in US Open’s History

Erin Hills is set to be the site of the 2017 US Open, and if everyone thought Merion was on the small site, be prepared for this course which covers six times the area as the 2013 US Open site. At over 7,750 yards it is going to be very interesting to see how it plays out.

But the good news is, estimates are that up to 10,000 more tickets will be sold for the event.
