I think the G/FORE Gallivanter is the best-looking shoe in golf.
Period.
It’s gorgeous. Pebbled leather, and a classic silhouette with bold colorways and high-end design – it was one of my biggest surprises of last year.
Mostly because I never felt like I was a good enough golfer to pull them off.
And while that may be true, they inspired confidence every time I wore them.
But you know what was even more of a surprise last year?
How much I loved the MG4+ shoes.
While they’re very good looking, it was their comfort and performance that won me over.
In fact, I liked them so much, that they made it in the travel bag for more golf trips than any other shoe.
And considering it was a pretty good travel year, that meant they got a lot of use.
But what happens when you pair the beautiful style of the Gallivanter with the spikeless performance and comfort of the MG4+?
You get the brand new Gallivan2r, and let’s just say, there’s a lot to like (even if they do have a confusing name).
Pronounced Gallivan-Tour.
First Impressions of the G/FORE Gallivant2r Shoes
This might come across wrong, but hear me out.
The first thing that crossed my mind when I saw the new G/FORE Gallivan2r shoes was a mullet: “Business in the front, party in the back.”
That’s kind of exactly what these shoes are.
Look at the shoe as a whole and they’re super attractive, and there isn’t necessarily anything over the top about them. They certainly have elements of the traditional Gallivanter shoe, but it’s also clear these are something different.
Then when you look at the soles you reach the “party in the back” element of the shoe.
They’re bright, bold, and exactly the kind of thing that has made G/FORE stand out as a brand.
I think they’re one of the most unique-looking shoes in golf, and they’re the perfect Spring golf shoe. The pops of color are super fun, while the completely waterproof construction is still ready to tackle morning dew, or courses that are in less than perfect shape.
But how do they feel and how do they perform on the course?

G/FORE Gallivan2r Shoe Performance
Putting on the shoes they instantly felt familiar.
First off, they have G/FORE’s hallmark nubbed insole – which might cause pause if you’ve never worn their shoes before.
But at least for me? I love them. They continue to get more and more comfortable throughout the round, and legit have a massaging effect on your feet over time.
To me, I think these shoes feel more like the MG4+ than the Gallivanter – which is backward from what I was expecting.
This is a good thing. The Gallivanter is a very comfortable shoe, but these feel a bit lighter, a bit roomier in the toebox, and generally make for a comfortable shoe to walk 18 holes in.
The only discomfort I’ve had is when I tried to tighten them too much. If I pulled the laces tight, on my right foot I found it was easy to overtighten causing discomfort on the top of my foot under the laces.
Loosening them up was an easy fix. The shoes themselves are pretty snug. It almost feels like you could wear them without tying them and still have them be comfortable.
Aside from that, the shoes are lightweight and didn’t need any breaking in. My feet felt great after walking in them for 4 hours.
One hesitation I did have were the unique soft spikes that look like little florets. G/FORE calls this the G/POD cleat system. It’s an interesting design, and I was curious how they’d do tractionwise.
Overall they have held up very well. I wore them on a less-than-dry PNW February day, and while traction wasn’t tour spike level, they were plenty stable to play in.
If traction is your ultimate goal and you want to get into a pair of G/FORE shoes, I’d check out the new Gallivanter G/LOCK – a removable spike version of the traditional Gallivanter.
But if you’ve traditionally been cool with regular spikeless golf shoes, you’ll be perfectly happy with these.
The Gallivan2r is a combination of two of my favorite golf shoes: the Gallivanter and MG4+. And the fact they do it at a price less than either of those makes it one of my new favorite shoes on the market.
Are the G/FORE Gallivan2r Shoes Worth It?
Not only do the Gallivan2r shoes feel good and perform well on the course, but they genuinely look like expensive shoes.
And don’t get me wrong, at $175, they are.
But they’re also considerably less than most pairs of G/FOREs.
As golf shoes have continued to get more and more expensive, it’s refreshing to see an upmarket brand, create an upmarket shoe at a price point that while still high, is more accessible than what they’ve previously offered.
Despite great build quality and both looking and feeling expensive, they don’t feel quite as nice as the Gallivanters. The traditional pebbled leather is next level, and feels a step up materials-wise.
But don’t let that put you off. The Gallivan2r shoes are among the best golf shoes I’ve tested.
Final Thoughts on the G/FORE Gallivan2r Shoes
The more I’ve worn these shoes, the more I’ve enjoyed them. In fact, I’ve liked them so much that I’m excited to go back out to the golf course just so I can wear them.
They look good.
They feel good.
And they’re something a little bit different from what you typically see on the golf course, which I love.
If you’ve been considering a pair of G/FORE shoes, but have been put off by the high price?
Well, you may still be put off by these.
But they might be just enough less expensive, to make pulling the trigger more compelling.
And if you do? You’re going to be treated to a wonderful golf shoe that does a great job marrying two of my favorite shoes of all time in the Gallivanter and MG4+ models.
Suffice to say, these are going to get a lot of wear time this year.
