I first came across Chase 54 when I was down in Orlando for the PGA Show a little over a year ago. I was tagging along with my friend Ashley as she was walked through the entire 2017 woman’s line. While I certainly didn’t know much about the woman’s clothes, I always remembered the company and was intrigued by their take on golf fashion – with a special focus on mobility and fabric choice. Their name is also one that’s memorable. While initially I was thinking of “Chase” as in a guy’s name, it in fact is a reference to…

I couldn’t have been more excited to take off for my trip to….wait for it….OHIO. Yes, Ohio. While my midwest (is Ohio technically midwest?) travels have been relatively limited, Ohio is home to some of the best golf in the world – so to finally be able to plan a trip there was something I’d been waiting on for quite some time. First stop on the trip? Scioto Country Club. Scioto is probably most well known for being the childhood club of Jack Nicklaus, and is where he learned how to play golf. Throughout the round we were told stories…

I review quite a few products here at Breaking Eighty – and most of the time in the end the products that make it on the site are really good. Not necessarily revolutionary, not necessarily totally game changing, but really good, solid products. While I’m not sure I’d call the Bushnell Pro X2 rangefinder revolutionary, I can unequivocally say it is one of the very best golf products I’ve ever reviewed on this site. If you’re interested in this, also check out my review of the newer Bushnell Pro XE rangefinder. First Impressions of the Bushnell X2 I’ve probably reviewed…

There’s one commonality between almost every single person I’ve played golf with over the last few years. Nearly every single one of them take a look at my irons, and just start laughing. “You’re a golf blogger??” “Are those from 1998??” “You broke 80 with THOSE??” It actually became pretty comical. And even more so when I was on the 18th hole at Valley Club this January, caught a 7 iron fat, and completely broke the club head off. I’ve had these same Nike Machspeed irons for about 6 years. When I got them I really knew very little about golf,…

I’m willing to bet you have a number of dream destinations. Places you would absolutely KILL to go to. I certainly do. Places like the Maldives, Bali, or Scotland are high on a lot of people’s lists. And last week I was fortunate enough to cross another bucket list destination off of my list. Where was it? The wild, and exotic state of…. Ohio. OHIO?! Yes, Ohio. I had a follow up appointment from a recent surgery and the doctor asked if I had any trips lined up. “Yep, I’m going to Ohio in a couple weeks.” “Oh, do you…

For years whenever I thought about Galvin Green all I could think about were epic waterproof, Goretex jackets. I think about brutal conditions, insane wind, and torrential downpours. And Galvin Green makes the best products in the world for battling those elements on the golf course. However over the last few years as I’ve become more familiar with Galvin Green and their brand, I’ve realized how much more than that they are. I have a Ventil8 quarter zip that is surprisingly warm, yet totally breathable, which makes it useful in temperatures bordering on freezing all the way up to the mid 60s…

Over the last couple years I’ve noticed a trend of smaller independent golf companies making a splash in the golf business, with products that are often half the price of major brands…with performance that in many cases rivals them. Just recently I reviewed the Precision Pro rangefinder which is nearly as good as the incumbent Bushnell. Swing Caddie created a launch monitor for a fraction of the price of Trackman or FlightScope. And for the last few years Bombtech has been doing the same thing with the golf club. I love this trend, and I’ve come across some excellent products that 10 years…

If you’re interested in the Ecco Cage Pro, I’d also take a look at the Ecco Biom C4. They’re my favorite shoes Ecco has made yet. A couple of years ago, I had one of the most pleasant golfing surprises of my life. I first wore a pair of Ecco golf shoes. Now, as you might know, I’m generally a Nike guy, and I love the half a dozen or so pairs of Nike’s I have – but I’d always heard good things about Eccos. They’re expensive, but if you’re going to spend 4-6 hours a round in them trudging…

Use the Code BREAKINGEIGHTY to get $20 off any Precision Pro Product on their site. I first got wind of Precision Pro Rangefinders about four months ago and was instantly intrigued by the concept. They are a small company, looking to create high quality rangefinders at a fraction of the price of their competitors. I had a chance to talk to them, and check out both the Precision Pro NX7 as well as the NX7 Pro edition which adds slope and vibration – but it wasn’t until a couple weeks ago I got my hands on a review copy of…

In January I officially launched my latest project which I’ve called The Eighty Club. To be honest? The response I’ve received fully exceeded my expectations. In less than two months we’ve jumped up to nearly 100 members, we have two official events scheduled, with a handful more of EIGHTYx events organized by club members, and every single day on the site, we have guys geeking out over all things golf. Since we launched, I’ve received tons of questions about the Club and what exactly it is. And I get it, it’s kind of a unique concept. There really isn’t anything exactly like…
