Let’s get this out of the way: If you’re choosing between the FlightScope Mevo+ and the SkyTrak+, you literally cannot make a bad decision. There are no wrong choices when considering the two products that are definitely among the best golf launch monitors in the $2-3k price range.
But just because there’s no wrong choice, doesn’t mean there isn’t a best choice.
And that’s where things get personal.
Because for as awesome as these two products are — and they are — one of them is at least fractionally better than the other for you personally.
So, how do you know which of the SkyTrak+ vs FlightScope Mevo+ is the best golf launch monitor and simulator for you? By reading on, that’s how.
I’ve tested each of these products extensively enough to have formed my opinions on a baker’s dozen of the most critical characteristics of both. And I’m going to share with you how they compare to each other in each of those categories. I’ll assign a point in favor of the product that wins each comparison. The key for you is to pay attention to the points that mean the most to your most likely use cases and personal taste.
Again, you really can’t go wrong with either, so this should be stress-free. But why not get the absolute best for your individual situation? After this, you should know which one that is.
A Brief SkyTrak+ vs FlightScope Mevo+ Background
As you likely realize, there are a lot of great options on the golf launch monitor and simulator front. I mean, a lot! It’s crazy how plentiful the choices have gotten over the last couple of years.
The biggest news and continued product rollouts have been in the under-$1,000 category. It was only a couple of years ago that this category would have included only devices that weren’t reliably accurate or really intended for serious game-improvement use. That all changed with the Garmin Approach R10. Since then, products like the Rapsodo MLM2PRO and Swing Caddie SC4 have pushed the envelope even further.
It’s now clear: You can get an awful lot for less than $1,000.
But those more budget-friendly devices do have their limitations. Which is how we’ve arrived at this $3,000-ish category. This has become the price point for the next level up — for the golfer who wants better than a budget product but doesn’t want to go quite as far as something like the Bushnell Launch Pro would cost after you include subscriptions.
And after we apply those filters, there are really only two products worth considering: the FlightScope Mevo+ and the SkyTrak+.
The Mevo+ debuted at the 2020 PGA Show. And it started turning heads immediately. As an upgrade to the FligthScope Mevo, the Mevo+ introduced simulator compatibility as well as a lot more data parameters. Since then, things have only gotten better with continuous improvements that have now led us to more than 20 data metrics, better battery life, more simulator course options and so on.
I’ve said it many times over the past few years: The FlightScope Mevo+ is my go-to launch monitor and simulator and the one I’ve recommended the most. It’s just that good.
SkyTrak’s history goes all the way back to 2014. The original SkyTrak kind of established the market for home-use golf simulators. And we’ve all been waiting a long time for a new SkyTrak, something that would incorporate all of the technology improvements that have come since that 2014 launch.
Well, this year, we finally got the upgraded, updated SkyTrak+. And as we’ll detail below, it’s a beauty. This is an incredible product capable of outstanding accuracy that includes modern and user-friendly software and that works great as a simulator.
So now there’s a very legitimate debate to be had regarding the best way to spend $3K on a golf launch monitor. It used to be easy. It was the Mevo Plus, case closed.
But now?
Well, the answer is the dreaded, “it depends.”
But fear not. We’re going to dissect it all over 13 categories so that you can make the most informed — and correct — decision.
Let’s jump right in.
Packaging and Presentation: Functional, Not Flashy
Mevo+: 1
SkyTrak+: 1
See, I told you this was going to be close. Don’t worry: Not every category is a tie.
But this one is deadlocked because, frankly, neither of these products includes much of a “wow” factor upon opening. They’re both… fine. Like, not overly impressive but totally functional.
In both cases, the packaging and presentation provides you with everything you need, but there’s no awe-inspiring luxury. For both, it’s much more about the device itself than it is the box in which it comes.
Size and Portability: Mevo+ Has It in the Bag
Mevo+: 1
SkyTrak+: 0
This one is easy. The Mevo+ is considerably smaller and lighter than the SkyTrak+. But what really makes the Mevo+ more portable is the included carrying case.
I have to say I was disappointed to find that, for $3,000, the SkyTrak+ comes with a nylon bag to carry your USB cables but nothing for the device itself! This seems like a major oversight and really becomes a bummer if you’re planning to bring this launch monitor back and forth between your simulator setup and the driving range.
So, the Mevo+ takes this category, no questions asked. It’s small and sleek, it includes a carrying case and it fits easily into pretty much any golf bag. The SkyTrak+ is none of those things.
Network Setup: SkyTrak Plus Scores With Seamless Sync
Mevo+: 0
SkyTrak+: 1
The good news here is that both of these devices are easy to set up. But I’m giving the point to the SkyTrak Plus because, well, it’s just that much more simple.
Establishing a connection via the SkyTrak+’s Network Mode, which uses an internet connection to sync your data with the software live in real-time, works seamlessly. While the Mevo+ network connection also works well, I haven’t found it to be quite as seamless.
As I said, both of these launch monitors make it easy to get up and running in very little time. It’s one of the selling points for each. But the edge here goes to the SkyTrak+.
Alignment Setup: Mevo+ Requires More Patience
Mevo+: 0
SkyTrak+: 1
Here’s another no-brainer. The SkyTrak+ couldn’t be easier to align. You simply set it down to the side of your ball, parallel to your target line, place the ball where the red laser dot appears on your hitting surface and you’re ready to go. It’s as simple as it gets.
The Mevo Plus, on the other hand, can be a bit finicky to get aligned just right. Unlike the space-saving SkyTrak+, the Mevo+ has to be set up 8 feet behind the ball. And it has to be positioned just right in order to give you the pinpoint accurate data that it’s capable of delivering. It’s actually one of the biggest Achille’s heels for this product. Relative to other golf launch monitors I’ve tested, the alignment for the Mevo+ is a bit higher maintenance.
So while it’s worth it to take the time to get the Mevo+ dialed in precisely, it does take at least a few minutes. With the SkyTrak+, you could have already hit several shots by then.
Simulator Compatibility: Mevo+ Offers More on the Course Menu
Mevo+: 1
SkyTrak+: 0
One of the coolest things about both of these launch monitors is that they can function as home golf simulators, and both do a very good job at it. But the FlightScope Mevo+ allows you more options as far as what third-party simulator software you can use. In fact, it’s one of the most compatible launch monitors on the market and works with E6, Awesome Golf, GSPro and a bunch of others.
Now the SkyTrak+ also is an outstanding home golf simulator option. And you can access some very cool golf courses. With E6, you can get tracks like Banff Springs, New South Wales, Loch Lomond and Oakmont. It’s also compatible with WGT by TopGolf, but honestly, my experience using that software with the SkyTrak hasn’t been the greatest.
I do think that simulator compatibility options will continue to improve with the SkyTrak+, but for now the nod goes to the Mevo+.
App Experience and User Interface: Elegance Meets Versatility
Mevo+: 1
SkyTrak+: 1
This is a tough one because both of these products include an excellent app experience. In fact, I think that between the two they have the best software solutions on the market. But they’re each great in their own way.
The SkyTrak+’s user interface feels clean, modern and beautiful. It is a joy to use.
The FlightScope, on the other hand, also has an easy-to-use app, but it’s a bit more customizable. It gives you almost unlimited options for organizing and displaying your data.
So we’ve got two winners here. The SkyTrak wins on elegance while the Mevo+ takes the cake for versatility.
Accuracy: Precision Without the Fuss With the SkyTrak+
Mevo+: 0
SkyTrak+: 1
This is a big one. Accuracy is one of the main reasons that each of these golf launch monitors is so highly recommended. They’re both are among the most accurate devices at their price point.
The Bushnell Launch Pro does sell for around $3,000, and it is more accurate than the Mevo Plus or SkyTrak Plus according to my testing. But the subscription costs are so much higher with the Launch Pro that the overall cost of ownership puts it at a different price point.
So between the Mevo+ and SkyTrak+, which is the most accurate? When setup correctly? They’re extremely similar. But I’m giving the point to the SkyTrak. My reasoning takes us back to the Alignment Setup category. Yes, the Mevo+ is incredibly accurate, but it has to be precisely set up in order to get that accuracy. With the SkyTrak Plus, you get that reliable, pinpoint accuracy without as much extra work.
Space Constraints: SkyTrak+ a Better Fit for Tight Spaces
Mevo+: 0
SkyTrak+: 1
Given that the SkyTrak+ sets up to the side of the ball whereas the Mevo+ sets up behind the ball, there really is no comparison here. The SkyTrak+ is easily the more attractive option for anyone with an indoor simulator setup that is tight on space.
With both devices, you’ll need at least 8 feet of room from the ball to your impact screen or net. But because the Mevo+ has to be positioned 8 feet behind the ball, that means you need at least 16 feet of total room depth to use that launch monitor indoors.
The SkyTrak+ doesn’t require any more room behind the ball than what you’d need to safely swing a golf club.
Now 8 feet might not sound like a lot, but for many people, this will be the difference between being able to set up a simulator space in their homes and not being able to do that. So the SkyTrak+ wins the point for this category.
If you're looking specifically for a home simulator that's easy to use, fun, and accurate? The SkyTrak+ may provide the very best experience out there for the money.
Simply put this is the closet you're going to get to a "pro" level launch monitor at a budget price. Granted $2k isn't exactly budget, but for what you get? This is a fantastic value. Use code "BREAKINGEIGHTYPLUS" to get an additional 5% off!
Price: Mevo+ Offers a la Carte Affordability
Mevo+: 1
SkyTrak+: 0
The SkyTrak+ retails for $2,995. For that price, you pretty much get all of the data metrics for the launch monitor functionality.
The FlightScope Mevo+ comes in at $2,199, and you can often find it on sale for closer to $1,800.
But there’s a caveat. In order to unlock all of the club data that the Mevo+ is capable of recording (things like club path, face to path, face to target and others), you’ll need to get the Mevo+ Pro Package, which costs $1,000.
You can use our Flightscope Coupon code “BREAKINGEIGHTYPLUS” to knock off 5% on both the Mevo Plus and the Pro Package. So when using this during one of the frequent FlightScope sales, the Mevo Plus with Pro Package still comes in less than the SkyTrak.
Additionally, with the Mevo Plus, you can get a very cool Impact Detection package that will show you exactly where on the clubface you’ve made contact. It’s an awesome feature that works very well and one that is not available with the SkyTrak. But if you add Impact Detection, you’re suddenly at a higher price than the SkyTrak+.
I like the way that FlightScope gives you a la carte options to only pay for what you’re going to use. It makes the overall Mevo+ experience more customizable. If you don’t want club path data, you can get a world-class golf launch monitor for under $2,000. But if you do want all the bells and whistles, they are there for you.
So even though, fully unlocked, the FlightScope Mevo+ is more expensive than the SkyTrak+, the fact that you can use this device for more than $1,000 less than the SkyTrak+, makes me give the point to the Mevo+ for this round.
Subscriptions: Mevo+ Breaks the Subscription Norm
Mevo+: 1
SkyTrak+: 0
Ah, subscriptions. Everybody’s favorite topic and one we can’t seem to avoid when it comes to talking golf tech.
With the SkyTrak+, you’ve got two subscription options. For $129.95 annually, you can get the Game Improvement package that unlocks a few extra modes, including a challenge mode, bag mapping, and wedge matrix. And, unless you’re using E6 for your simulator software, you have to have at least the Game Improvement package to even use the SkyTrak+ with third-party simulator software.
Then, for $249.95 a year, you can get SkyTrak’s Play & Improve package, which includes E6 access. So, if you want to use your SkyTrak+ as a simulator right out of the box, you’re going to have to spend $249.95 a year to do that.
Then there’s the Mevo+. And guess what? It doesn’t have ANY subscriptions. That’s right: A golf gadget in 2023 without subscriptions. It’s one of my favorite things about the Mevo+, and it makes awarding it the point in this category very easy.
Responsiveness: Mevo+ Offers Express Data Delivery
Mevo+: 1
SkyTrak+: 0
After you hit the ball, how quickly does the launch monitor app display your shot information? That’s what we mean by responsiveness. And in this case, there really is no comparison.
With the SkyTrak+, you’ve got to wait maybe a second or so after each shot before the information populates. To me, it’s not a big deal. And if I never used a product that didn’t include that delay, I’m not even sure I’d notice it.
But with the Mevo+, the data is immediate. You hit, and your ball flight and all of your numbers are there by the time you can even look at the screen.
So, while I wouldn’t rate the delay with the SkyTrak+ as any kind of deal-breaker, the point has to go to the Mevo Plus for its instant feedback.
Most Fun: SkyTrak+ Edges Out
Mevo+: 0
SkyTrak+: 1
Here’s an important consideration: Which of these two candidates for best golf launch monitor is the most fun use? Isn’t that one of the main points of having one of these?
And I’m going to give the nod to the SkyTrak Plus. The seamless, modern app interface, the challenge modes and interesting practice options, the bag mapping, the wedge matrix — all of these things add up to make the SkyTrak+ a blast to use. Add in the ease-of-setup and simple alignment, and practicing or playing simulated rounds with the SkyTrak+ is really enjoyable.
Now don’t get me wrong: If you buy the Mevo+, you’re going to have plenty of fun! It too has its advantages that add to enjoyment. The fact that it’s got more simulator compatibility and that it is more portable are both pros that the SkyTrak+ can’t match.
But, overall, I find myself having just a little bit more fun when I’m using the SkyTrak+. So it gets the point.
Personal Affinity: It’s Close, But…
Mevo+: 1
SkyTrak+: 0
OK, if it was me and I had to choose between one of these two products, which one would I buy?
The answer: the FlightScope Mevo+.
I know. I know. I just talked about how the SkyTrak+ is more fun. And I’ve lauded its awesome app experience and simple setup and space-saving benefits. And all of that is true and makes the SkyTrak+ positively awesome.
But when it comes to the full package, including the price, all of the metrics it’s capable of reading, the simulator compatibility, and the portability, I just find myself favoring the Mevo+.
It’s close, there’s no question. But, for me, it’s the Mevo+.
And, for what it’s worth, my individual category scoring adds up to reflect just that.
Final Tally and Thoughts on the FlightScope Mevo+ vs SkyTrak+
Mevo+: 8
SkyTrak+: 7
If you’ll notice, the Mevo+ only edged out the SkyTrak+ because of my personal affinity. Otherwise, they would have tied.
That means that, at least according to my findings, these two products are really close and each does at least some things better than the other. As I said at the start, the key for you is to identify which of these categories is the most important to you.
If you’re considering a golf launch monitor and simulator in the $3,000 range, unless you’re willing to spend a bit more with the Launch Pro or Uneekor Eye Mini, these are the two I’d absolutely consider.
There is no wrong choice. But there is a right choice for you. I hope we’ve helped you find it.
And if you’re still unsure, or maybe you have decided you do want a golf launch monitor but neither of these products is right for you, take our quiz. It’ll take you 30 seconds, and at the end I’ll give you my best recommendation based on your individual situation.

This seriously the best side by side comparison of any product of any type. Still not sure which one I should buy but that’s on me. This gave me all the info I need to make a decision
Thank you for your very insightful review on this. I am in the mid stages of planning out my in home simulator. I will be stepping up from the Garmin I have used now for over a year. Also as a fellow Oregonian I would love to see more course reviews of some of the places in Oregon you play. Thanks again and maybe one day I will run into you out on the course.
