Over the years I’ve struggled to find a pair of golf pants that I truly loved.
Most often I’ve found myself leaning towards versatile pants that I can use both on the course and off.
I’ve worn the Bluffworks Ascender for years, and more recently I’ve been a fan of the TRUE Linkswear All Day pants.
And those are great.
But I’ve got a new love: the G/FORE Tour 5 Pocket pants.
I’ve written in other reviews about my reluctance to embrace G/FORE.
The brand seemed a little too fashion-forward for me, and if I’m honest, a lot of their branding and styling isn’t necessarily for me.
But then I gave the brand a shot.
It started with shoes.
From the versatile MG4x2, to the stylish Gallivanters, to the all-around excellent MG4+ – every pair of G/FORE golf shoes I’ve worn have been excellent.
I now wear G/FORE shoes personally more than any other brand.
So if I was wrong about the shoes, maybe I’d be wrong about the apparel too?
I’ve already said it, so let’s not bury the lede: these pants are wonderful.
Let’s find out why.
First Impressions of the G/FORE Tour 5 Pocket Golf Pants
For the last year, I’ve used the TRUE All Day pants for a good portion of my rounds.
I love how lightweight and versatile they are.
In fact, they’re so versatile, that I just wore them for 3 days straight on a fishing trip down the Deschutes River.
But for as great as they are, that same lightweight build has also left me feeling like something is missing just a little bit on the golf course.
Maybe it’s build quality? Perfect fit?
I couldn’t quite put my finger on it until I started wearing the G/FORE golf pants.
Out of the box (Errr bag), the G/FORE Tour 5 Pocket feel premium.
The pants feel slightly thicker and heavier than All-Day pants, but in a good way.
Fashion purists might shame anyone wearing pants with stretch fabric, but as someone rocking a legitimate dad bod these days, I welcome stretch fabric with open arms.
And G/FORE does it right.
G/FORE Tour 5 Pocket Fit and Performance
When I say they do it right, they’ve created a stretch performance pant, that doesn’t feel or look like a stretch performance pant.
One of the hallmarks G/FORE is known for is their fit, and these fit me wonderfully.
They’re slightly more slim fit than many other golf pants, but the stretch waist negates any concerns of being too tight.
I’ve been a 34×32 for years, and these fit true to that.
On the golf course, I’ve never felt constricted, and they provide full range of motion during swings. These pants have never gotten in the way or been uncomfortable golfing during my 15 or so rounds wearing them.
These G/FORE golf pants are certainly not waterproof, but their moisture-wicking properties work very well. I’ve worn them in some pretty steady rain and they repel water very nicely and dry quickly.
Can You Wear the G/FORE Tour 5 Pocket Off the Course?
What I love about these pants is the propensity to dress them up rather than down.
With the TRUE and Bluffworks pants I’ve worn for years, I’ve often worn them on the golf course in less casual situations.
With the G/FORE golf pants, I’ve dressed them up a handful of times.
Whether it was a formal dinner at Oakmont earlier this year, or wearing them to a wedding in a pinch after a last-minute suit snafu – these pants have delivered.
The 5-pocket styling may be a put off to some who prefer more traditional golf pants, but these don’t necessarily feel like 5-pocket pants. Especially if you opt for a dark colorway, they can pass as something more formal.
Final Thoughts on G/FORE Golf Pants
I’m learning to stop being surprised when I review a G/FORE product and love it.
Yes, you won’t find me rocking a jacket emblazoned with a giant skull and crossbones on the back.
It also didn’t take me long to relegate my G/FORE shorts with racing stripes on the pocket to my golf clothes graveyard.
But when choosing the more subtle designs from their offerings (like these Contrast sweaters for instance)? I’m not sure there’s a golf footwear/apparel brand that I’ve been more happy with this year than G/FORE.
Their products aren’t cheap. These pants are $165 (but they used to be $185). But more and more these days I’ve been going by the mantra “buy it nice, or buy it twice” and these I can say with full confidence, are very nice.
Highly recommended.
Do these not feel like the right fit for you? Here are the other pairs of golf pants that make it into my regular rotation.
They're comfortable, stylish, and versatile. I get excited every time I get to put these pants are. That's saying something considering, they're just golf pants...

It's true, these are my new favorite golf pants
Not only do these pants fit perfectly, but they look good, and have the right amount of stretch and flexibility to perform on the course. They aren't cheap, but if you're only buying one pair of golf pants? Buy nice, or buy twice.
The Good
- The perfect amount of stretch and the perfect tailored fit.
- Material is both performance oriented, while still looking nice enough to wear to dinner
