FlightScope Mevo Gen 2 vs. Mevo+ vs. Rapsodo MLM2PRO: Which Should You Buy?

Updated November 2025: Everything’s changed. The Mevo Plus, long my most recommended favorite launch monitor for most golfers, is now gone. Long may she run. But we’re all left in a better place. The new Gen 2 does all of the same things. It just does them better and for cheaper. For those who may still find a Mevo+ at a killer price, we’re continuing the comparison between it, the new Gen 2, and the Rapsodo MLM2PRO. We’ve updated our comparisons, criteria, and scores to reflect the latest news.

In a lot of ways, the arrival of the new FlightScope Mevo Gen 2 raises more questions than it answers.

How does it compare to the Mevo+, the launch monitor it has now replaced?

How does it stack up against the Rapsodo MLM2PRO, which has taken over the sub-$1,000 category since its recent addition of some advanced club data metrics?

And where does this all leave the golfer who just wants to buy the right device without getting lost in the weeds of specs, software, and subscription models?

The short answer is that the Gen 2 is now the clear winner in FlightScope’s lineup. With Pro Package and Face Impact Location finally available, it does everything the Mevo+ did for less money. 

The Mevo+ is officially discontinued, though you may still find remaining stock at clearance prices. And there’s no way that FlightScope is going to stop supporting Mevo+ users. There are far too many of them.

So, it’s still worth looking at the Mevo+ comparison even if they’re no longer making them.

Each of these launch monitors have clear strengths, weaknesses, and a “best fit” golfer it’s designed for.

So instead of trying to crown a champion, let’s break down each category, score them head-to-head on a simple 0-3 scale, and then figure out which one is right for you.

This comparison is more about studying each individual category than it is trying to decide which is best based on total points.

Also, note that the scores for the Mevo Gen 2 and Mevo+ will be identical in several categories. That’s because, in many ways, these are identical devices. They both operate on the same Fusion Tracking engine.

The biggest differences are their physical looks and the Gen 2’s longer battery life and slightly larger radar.

So, my advice is to look at the categories that matter most to you, and make your decisions based on those criteria that you’ve deemed important.

Packaging and Presentation: They’re All Straightforward but Very Nice

None of these devices are trying to wow you with luxury packaging. What you get is clean, functional, and professional. The packaging for each one is solid and well-designed.

The FlightScope models feel slightly more “serious” to me. The Rapsodo leans more consumer-friendly, but the hardware still feels substantial and high-quality.

Bottom line: All three are presented well, have nice carrying cases, and give you the sense you’ve bought a quality piece of equipment.

Size and Portability: Tough to Beat Rapsodo Here

Both FlightScope models are compact for what they do, but because the MLM2PRO detaches into two separate pieces, it makes transport just incredibly convenient.

Both Rapsodo and FlightScope do a decent job with their carrying cases. Nice and portable and good quality. I do think the Gen 2 could have benefitted from using a smaller case that didn’t have room for the external charger – but this is a minor quibble. 

I could have (and maybe should have) given the highest marks to each of these products in this category. But there’s something about the MLM2PRO that I just find very satisfying and easy to break down, set up, and transport. To me, it’s a cut above when it comes to portability.

Ease of Setup — Rapsodo Is Faster, FlightScope Is More Demanding

This is one of the clearer dividing lines. The MLM2PRO is dead simple to set up before a practice or sim session. Pretty much place it 7 feet behind the ball, use the built-in camera’s alignment line, and start hitting shots. It all takes about a minute.

The FlightScope Gen 2 and Mevo+ require a little more precision in alignment. It’s not like it’s terrible or overly complicated, but it’s definitely a bit more involved than with the Rapsodo. Instead of a minute, you might end up taking up to five minutes. Something like that.

Accuracy: FlightScope Holds the Edge

This is where FlightScope separates itself. Both the Gen 2 and Mevo+ use Fusion Tracking — the same radar-and-camera engine powering their $15,000 X3C pro-grade unit. The results are highly accurate, especially for ball flight outdoors.

The MLM2PRO is extremely impressive for its price, and the addition of directly measured club path and angle of attack makes it the most capable sub-$1,000 launch monitor ever released. But to unlock spin indoors, you need RPT balls, and consistency is just a notch below FlightScope’s.

Data and Metrics: FlightScope Offers More

All three of these launch monitors give you the essentials, especially ball data. Each set of metrics is plenty for most amateur golfers.

The game-changer here is that the Gen 2 now has full access to the Pro Package and Face Impact Location. That means you can unlock the same advanced club data that made the Mevo+ so compelling. Stuff like face-to-path, dynamic loft, swing plane, impact location, and a lot more.

Rapsodo made a huge splash earlier in 2025 when they added directly measured club path and angle of attack to the MLM2PRO. That’s significant, and it’s included in the Premium membership with no increase to the unit’s purchase price.

Here’s the key difference: To get all that the MLM2PRO can do, you’ve got to pay $199 a year or $499 for a lifetime unlock.

To get everything out of the Gen 2 or Mevo+, you’ll need the Pro Package and Face Impact Location features. You can bundle them and unlock them for life for a regular retail of $1,499, though FlightScope is running a holiday sale where you can buy the bundle for only $850.

It’s true that the MLM2PRO is the less-expensive lifetime unlock. However, the Mevo package gives you so much more. It really opens up a suite of data and tools that’s better and more expansive than any other product anywhere near this price.

Why the Gen 2 Now Wins

The Gen 2 is now FlightScope’s flagship portable launch monitor. And they’ve priced it at just $1,299. Use code BREAKINGEIGHTYPLUS to take an additional 5% off of that.

The reason this is big is that this new retail Gen 2 price is considerably lower than what it used to cost to get a Mevo Plus. And the Gen 2 can do all of the same things but with a larger/better radar and a far better battery.

That said, when FlightScope discontinued the Mevo+, they slashed the price down to $1,099 (or $1,044 if you use the BREAKINGEIGHTYPLUS code). So that means that for as long as they last, you can get buy into FlightScope for a thousand dollars, which is lower than I’ve ever seen.

So, the Gen 2 is the definite winner going forward. But there’s a unique chance to save even more money right now with the Mevo+.

Video Features:  Rapsodo Shines, FlightScope Holds Its Own

FlightScope recently got their shot tracer with data overlay feature working correctly, and I gotta say, it’s awesome.

If you set up an iPhone or tablet to capture your swing video, the app will show replays of each swing with a shot tracer and the data metrics of your choice populating on top of the tracer line as the ball flies. It’s definitely cool. But it also requires some manual setup.

You’ve also got the ability to do a multi-cam setup with FlightScope, which while requiring setup, works well and is a great aid when working on your swing.

The MLM2PRO builds the video tech directly into the device. Shot Vision, Impact Vision, slow-motion replays, automatic video library… It’s the most seamless video experience of the three, even if it’s maybe not quite as feature heavy.

But for golfers who love pairing swing visuals with data, I give the edge here to Rapsodo simply for ease of use.

Simulator Play: Mevo+ and Gen 2 Win Out

The Gen 2 now includes the same 12-course E6 bundle the Mevo+ offered, including Pebble Beach and St Andrews. That’s lifetime access with no subscriptions.

Both FlightScope models have full compatibility with GSPro, Awesome Golf, and other third-party sim platforms.

The MLM2PRO has made massive strides with simulator software.

First of all, they’ve got Rapsodo Courses available with the Premium membership. That gives you access to animated versions of more than 30,000 courses worldwide. It’s a ton of fun. Very similar to Garmin’s Home Tee Hero feature.

But more recently, Rapsodo added direct-connection compatibility between the MLM2PRO and the popular third-party GSPro sim software option. That’s a big win.

Battery Life: Gen 2 in a Landslide

The Gen 2’s six-hour battery life more than doubles both the Mevo+ (about 2.5 hours) and the MLM2PRO (two to four hours).

This category’s not particularly close. Granted, you’re not likely to practice for six straight hours. But the extra battery life means you have to remember to charge that much less often.

Subscriptions and Cost: FlightScope Wins on Transparency

The MLM2PRO looks cheapest at $699, but the $199/year Premium subscription (or $499 lifetime) is basically mandatory. That brings the true cost much closer to around $1,200, which is close to the $1,299 retail price of the Gen 2.

The FlightScope models are subscription-free. What you see is what you pay. That’s extremely refreshing to a lot of users in 2025 when everything seems to be tied to an ongoing subscription fee.

App Experience: Mostly Good Across the Board

FlightScope’s FS Golf app is highly functional and customizable. I actually love it for how many options it gives you for organizing and reviewing data. 

While the app is maybe starting to feel a little dated in spots, when it comes to the stuff that matters, being able to easily organize, and see the exact data I want? It’s among my favorite app experiences out there.

Rapsodo’s app feels like a coach in your pocket. Combine, Insights, session summaries, skill challenges… It’s gamified in a way that keeps practice engaging. For everyday golfers who want guidance, not just numbers, it’s very approachable.

I just wish it had a little more customizability and felt a bit more “pro” verses “consumer”.

Reliability: FlightScope’s Proven Platform

The Mevo+ has been around for years and is as steady as they come. The Gen 2, built on the same engine, shows every sign of being just as reliable.

The MLM2PRO has improved firmware updates, but early complaints about missed shots and dropped sessions still hang around in user feedback. It’s not unreliable, but it doesn’t have FlightScope’s long track record of stability.

Personal Affinity: Depends on What You Value

The Gen 2 is now my top recommendation for most golfers shopping in this range. With Pro Package and Face Impact Location finally available, it does everything the Mevo+ did but with a better battery and some other physical upgrades.

I still think that if you can find remaining Mevo+ and apply our code to get it for right around $1,000 that that’s a very solid buy. But the Gen 2 is the device FlightScope will continue improving.

Then there’s the MLM2PRO. There’s very little bad I can say about this product. It’s outstanding. And if you’re hell-bent on keeping your initial spend below $1,000, this is the launch monitor I’d go with. Especially with the recent improvements, this is a hell of a product for only $699.

Final Scores — For What They’re Worth

Look, I said at the beginning, this exercise is supposed to be a lot more about the individual categories than the total score.

But it is interesting, and in my experience appropriate, to see how close the final results are. To me, it’s a reflection of how awesome each of these devices are. They really are each an excellent choice for the right user.

So, Which One Should You Buy?

I’ve said many times that there is no one launch monitor that’s perfect for every person.

But these really are the three that I think make the most sense for people who are serious about getting quality and accuracy but who don’t want to spend all the way up to the highest level.

Going forward, I think my recommendation will be for people to consider pushing just a bit past that $1K boundary to stretch for the Gen 2.

However, for as long as stock remains at the clearance prices, the Mevo+ will be a very compelling option.

But the thing to remember about either FlightScope product is that to truly get the full experience that makes these launch monitors special, you really need to unlock at least the Pro Package, which adds another $1,000 at retail (I’d try to act on these current FlightScope sale prices, which knocks the Pro Package down to $599).

While I don’t think the MLM2PRO goes quite as deep in terms of what the fully unlocked software gives you, it’s still the more affordable option. You can buy the device for $699 and unlock it for life for an additional $499.

So if budget is your primary concern, I think you can feel great getting the MLM2PRO and saving some money.

If you want the best at this price point and the product that’s going to be most future-proofed, I’d get the FlightScope Gen 2.
