If you’ve been reading this blog for awhile you know that I’m a huge Nike guy. My fiance used to work in Nike Golf, I grew up in Eugene, what can I say, it’s in my blood. That said, some of their golf products are better than others. Their balls historically I’ve found to be relatively so-so compared to the competition, for instance. That said, I’ve found that Nike Golf always nails footwear and apparel. I LOVE my Nike Golf Rain Suit, and am trekking through Scotland with it next month. I’m also still rocking both my Lunar Control shoes…

What do cars on the wrong side of the road, towns at the same latitude as Juneau, Alaska, and spectacular ocean views all have in common? Answer: I’ll be experiencing all three next month when I return to Europe for the first time since my college graduation in 2007. I’ve known my friend Dan Jarvis for the better part of three years now, and ever since we first met in the Mexican jungle, we’ve been talking about taking a golf and scotch trip to Scotland. It was always one of those ambiguous things that never had a timeline and we…
Grab a Fitbit Flex off Amazon here. Alright, I know that the Fitbit isn’t exactly a golf device, but I’ve been using mine for the last couple weeks – and I know there are some of you out there who like to think of your golf outings as exercise, so I figured it kind of relates. I’d been thinking about some kind of wearable fitness device for awhile, but just hadn’t really looked into them that much. That was until a couple weeks ago when I was in Vegas, and in the midst of being hungover from too many fireball…
It’s amazing to me that I haven’t written about Pumpkin Ridge before this. I’m about a year and a half into my quest to play the Top 100 and Top 100 Public courses in the US, and the Ghost Creek course at Pumpkin Ridge is the closest one to my home in Portland, OR. I’d played the course once about three years ago, and earlier this summer I got to play the private side, Witch Hollow, but I hadn’t had a chance to photograph Ghost Creek, which is #63 on the Greatest 100 Public Course list. Through an instagram contest…
After the surreal experience that was Atunyote (ah-dun-yo), we decided to make a night of it at Turning Stone Resort. There was a moment when I was just like, how did I end up here? I’m from Portland, Oregon and I was sitting in a country bar, in an indian casino, in the middle of nowhere New York. That’s part of the fun of this whole Top 100 and Top 100 Public quest – I’ve ended up in places I’d never go before (Atlanta, Michigan anyone?). After winning $200 off my free play from the Casino, we may gone out…
I’ve been telling people for years that a trip to Bandon Dunes in the off season may not be such a bad idea. While still full, you’re not dealing with the same level of crowds that you will in the summer, and it’s a fraction of the price – especially if you’re an Oregon resident. As an example, in February my buddy Nick and I went down there for a weekend, and to play all 5 courses and have a 2 nights lodging, we each paid just over $500. In July that’d be a round and a half – with no lodging!…
See our review of the most recent release, Arccos 360 right here. Or buy a set of sensors on Amazon or their website. A couple weeks ago I first wrote about Arccos Golf, a new stat-tracking device similar to the Game Golf which I’ve written about in the past. I had a great call with the company’s founders Sal and Ammad, and to be honest, it all felt a little too good to be true. When I picked up Game Golf during their Indiegogo, I was excited for months about it’s potential, but found the stats to be a bit…
Before heading up to Northern Michigan for my golf road trip, people told me that Arcadia Bluffs and Bay Harbor would duke it out for best views and my favorite course in the area. As you may know, Arcadia Bluffs ended up being one of my favorite courses in the country – but that in no way diminishes Bay Harbor and what it has to offer. Definitely one of the higher end public resorts in Michigan, from the moment you walk in you feel like you’re at a first rate resort. Bay Harbor features 27 holes of golf split into…
Obviously the hardest part about playing the Top 100 golf courses is access to many of them. The question I get asked most is usually “how are you going to get on Augusta?” The answer? I have no idea, but really, that’s the least of my concerns right now. When you aren’t a member of a prestigious club, are young, and because of such, don’t have the money and the connections as say a NYC investment banker, getting access to any private course is difficult. But that’s one of the reasons I want to do this – to prove that even if…
Earlier this year I wrote my in depth thoughts on the Game Golf platform that I was excited about for the better part of 2013. Game Golf is a device that you wear on your belt, that pairs with tabs on each of your golf clubs to track stats and distances throughout your entire round. I’ve played nearly 20 rounds with that now, and they’re making improvements no doubt, but there’s one major problem I keep running into: I’m forgetful. If I hit a couple bad shots, the last thing on my mind is tagging a shot. Often I find…
