These are the 5 Golf Recovery Tools I Can’t Live Without

No matter how old you are, you should probably be taking better care of your body. These things can help.

If you want to play your best golf, you need to treat your body well.

I know that sounds obvious, but it’s something most amateur golfers completely overlook.

And now that I’m 40, I can’t get away with ignoring recovery like I used to. The days of playing 36 holes, sleeping on a terrible hotel mattress, and waking up feeling fine? Yeah, those are long gone.

We’ll spend hundreds of dollars on the latest driver or a fresh set of irons, but when it comes to investing in recovery tools that help us feel better and perform better on the course? We act like it’s not important.

Here’s the reality: golf is hard on your body. Your back takes a beating from the rotational stress of the swing. Your legs get tired from walking 18 holes. Your muscles get tight. Your sleep suffers when you’re stressed about your game or life in general.

And all of that adds up to worse performance on the golf course.

Over the last few years, I’ve tested dozens of golf recovery tools, golf recovery gear, and wellness devices. Some have been complete duds. Others have been absolute game-changers.

What follows are the recovery tools for golfers that have actually made a difference in my life and my game. These aren’t just products I tested once and forgot about – these are tools I actually use on a regular basis.

    Let’s dive in.

Best Sleep Tool: Eight Sleep Pod

The Eight Sleep is the single best investment I’ve made in my health.

I’m not exaggerating when I say the Eight Sleep Pod has been life-changing.

Is it cheap? Nope. It’s actually very expensive for a product you likely don’t think you need.

But after using it consistently for the past three years, I absolutely swear by it.

I have the Pod 3, which is fantastic. But Eight Sleep recently released their 5th generation Pod 5, which adds even more features:

    • Improved temperature range (gets colder and warmer than previous versions)
    • Enhanced AutoPilot AI that learns your sleep patterns and adjusts automatically
    • Better health tracking, including respiratory rate and more accurate HRV monitoring
    • Upgraded haptic alarm that wakes you up with gentle vibrations instead of sound
    • Physical controls on the bed so that you can change temperatures without the app

The fact that it tracks sleep stages, HRV, and other health metrics without requiring you to wear anything kind of feels like magic.

But here’s what matters most: it has legitimately helped me get better sleep.

And better sleep has had an all-around positive impact on my life, my mood, and yes, my golf game. When I’m well-rested, I’m more focused on the course, my decision-making is sharper, and I have way more energy through all 18 holes.

My only complaint? I wish they had a travel version so I could take it with me on golf trips.

Alternative: The ChiliSleep Dock Pro is also a solid option if you want to save some money. It doesn’t have all the tracking features of the Eight Sleep, but the temperature control works well.

Best Massage and Decompression Tool: Chirp Contour

After years of dealing with back tightness from golf (and let’s be honest, just sitting at a desk too much), the Chirp Contour has become an essential part of my golf recovery routine.

At $599, it’s not exactly cheap. But it’s hands down one of the best golf muscle recovery tools I’ve tested.

The Contour uses motorized rollers that move up and down your spine to provide massage, decompression, and targeted relief. It comes with three different roller options – soft, medium, and deep tissue – along with a heat function that’s surprisingly effective.

What I love most is the Decompression mode. The rollers slowly work up and down your spine, pushing up at each vertebra to give your back a legitimate stretch. The first time I used this and stood up afterward, I felt multiple pops in my back – the good kind.

It genuinely feels like it’s decompressing your spine, and after a long day on the course or sitting at a desk for hours, this mode is incredible.

The heat function is also a game-changer, especially during the off-season. The warmth helps loosen everything up before the rollers start working, and when you have both the neck and back rollers going at the same time, it’s shockingly close to what you’d experience in a high-end massage chair.

But if you deal with back tightness or pain regularly and want a golf recovery device that actually gets used, the Chirp Contour is absolutely worth it.

Key considerations: If you’re significantly shorter or taller than average (I’m 6’1″ and it’s nearly perfect for me), you may need to adjust your positioning to find your sweet spot. Also, the weight limit is 250 pounds, so keep that in mind.

This thing totally surprised me. It's fantastic. It gives many of the benefits of massage chairs costing 10-20x as much in a surprisingly compact package. Highly recommended. It's even better that you can get the RPM Mini ($150 value) for free.

Best Fitness and Stretching Program: Golf Forever

    Golf Forever System

Used by Scottie Scheffler. That alone should tell you something.

Golf Forever is a way more robust ecosystem than I expected when I first signed up.

There’s a full app with dozens of golf-specific exercise and recovery programs that are all geared toward improving your golf game and helping you feel better on and off the course.

The program isn’t just about getting stronger – though that’s certainly part of it. It’s about building the specific mobility, stability, and strength that actually translates to better golf.

Each workout is designed around the golf swing and addresses the specific issues that plague amateur golfers: tight hips, limited rotation, weak glutes, poor posture, and so on.

    The app includes:

    • Guided video workouts you can do at home
    • Mobility routines specifically for pre-round warmups
    • Recovery protocols for post-round
    • Strength training programs designed for golfers
    • The option to add their Swing Trainer device for additional feedback

What I appreciate most is that the workouts are realistic for normal people. You’re not training like a tour pro (unless you want to). Most sessions are 15-30 minutes, and you can scale them based on your fitness level.

If you’re serious about improving your golf game and staying healthy enough to play for years to come, Golf Forever is one of the best investments you can make.

    Best Percussion Massager: Theragun Mini

    Theragun Mini

While the Chirp Contour works wonders for your back and neck, the Theragun Mini has been my go-to for years for expediting recovery in my legs and arms.

It’s the right size and form factor for what I need. Not too big, not too small – just portable enough to throw in my golf bag or suitcase without taking up a ton of space.

Are there cheaper percussion gun options out there? Absolutely.

But I’ve found the Theragun Mini to be pretty bulletproof. I’ve had mine for over two years and it’s still going strong. And honestly, I haven’t found any need for a more robust motor like some of the more expensive percussion guns out there have.

The Mini hits the sweet spot for post-round golf recovery. After walking 18 holes, I’ll spend a few minutes on my calves, quads, and hip flexors, and it makes a noticeable difference in how I feel the next day.

Worth noting: If you buy the Chirp Contour, you can get their RPM Mini massager for free as part of a bundle deal. I haven’t found it to be quite as good at working out tough knots and muscles as the Theragun, but hey, it’s a pretty good deal for something that still does a solid job.

Best Supplement for Energy and Recovery: AG1

Let me start by saying: AG1 is expensive. They go over the top on their marketing. It doesn’t taste the best (though it’s gotten better). And there are many alternatives out there.

So why is it on this list?

Because after using AG1 off and on for two years, I’ve found that I have noticeably more energy when I take it on a daily basis. My focus is better on the golf course. I don’t get an afternoon crash as frequently. And I just feel good knowing I at least have something looking out for me when my diet goes sideways.

The reality is that most of us don’t eat as well as we should, especially when we’re traveling for golf trips or tournaments. AG1 gives me peace of mind that I’m covering my nutritional bases even when I’m eating airport food or grabbing whatever’s convenient.

I always take their travel packs on the road with me. On my most recent trip to Nova Scotia – which had a lot of early mornings, late nights, and long work days – those days never felt quite as painful as they often do. And I think at least part of that is due to being consistent with AG1 first thing every morning.

    Is it necessary? No.

Will it magically fix your golf game? Of course not.

But as part of a broader approach to recovery and wellness, I’ve found it genuinely helpful.

AG1 is one of those products people either love to hate on or absolutely swear by. I'm the latter. Taking it has made me feel better, and at least somewhat make up for a less than perfect diet.

Final Thoughts on Golf Recovery Equipment

    Recovery isn’t sexy.

It’s not as exciting as buying a new driver or getting fitted for irons.

But if you’re serious about playing better golf – and more importantly, playing golf for a long time without your body falling apart – investing in quality recovery tools is essential.

The products on this list aren’t here because companies sent them to me (though some did). They’re here because I actually use them and they’ve made a real difference in how I feel and how I perform on the course.

As I continue to test new golf recovery gear and wellness products, I’ll update this post with anything that earns a spot on the list.

Because at the end of the day, the best recovery tool for golfers is the one you’ll actually use consistently.
