The Chirp Contour Massage Table is So Much Better than I Expected

A couple of months ago, I found myself at the Oregon State Fair sitting in a $13,000 massage chair.

And let me tell you – it was glorious.

Everything about it felt incredible. The rollers hit every pressure point perfectly, the heat was dialed in, and for those 15 minutes, I genuinely felt like I was getting a professional massage.

But here’s the thing: dropping $13,000 on a massage chair is absolutely insane for most people (myself included). And even if you could afford it, there’s something about being “the guy with the massage chair” that feels a little… off.

You know what I’m talking about.

So when I heard about the Chirp Contour Massage and Decompression Table, I got legitimately excited.

Obviously, it’s a far cry from a full massage chair, but the big question was: could it help me get a legit back massage in the areas where my Theragun Mini can’t reach?

After using it for the last few weeks, I’ve got some thoughts.

What is the Chirp Contour?

Before we dive into my experience, let’s talk about what this thing actually is.

The Chirp Contour is essentially a massage table designed specifically for your back. It uses motorized rollers that move up and down your spine to provide massage, decompression, and targeted relief.

It’s not a full massage chair. It’s not trying to be.

Instead, it’s a compact, storable solution that focuses on your back – which, let’s be honest, is where most golfers need the most help anyway.

The device comes with three different roller options (soft, medium, and deep tissue), a heat function, and both manual and automatic modes.

At $599, it’s positioned as a serious recovery tool without the absurd price tag of a full massage chair.

But does it actually work?

First Impressions of the Chirp Contour Decompression Table

When the box arrived, the first thing I noticed was that it was bigger than I expected.

Not massive by any means, but definitely not something you’d mistake for a small package.

Once I got it out of the box, though, I was immediately impressed by the overall form factor. The Contour is surprisingly slim, and I love how easy it is to store.

There’s a handle on the side which makes it relatively easy to carry around. It’s not super portable, but I can easily move it around the house, or you could easily throw it in the car if you’re taking a golf or ski road trip.

It weighs 22 pounds all in, and the dimensions are 43″ long, 22″ wide, and 7″ tall from the floor to the top of the neck rollers. 

There’s a hidden compartment for the three different rollers that’s super well designed. It’s the kind of thoughtful touch that makes you think the people who built this actually use the product themselves.

The remote has a lot of options on it, and I really appreciate that you can easily disconnect it from the power adapter. So if you want to leave the adapter plugged in but store the Contour under your bed (which is exactly what I do), it’s incredibly easy to bring it back out and plug in.

For the price point, it feels well-made. Not luxury-level build quality, but definitely solid enough that I’m not worried about it falling apart.

Setting Up and Using the Chirp Contour Was Surprisingly Simple

One of the best things about the Chirp Contour is just how intuitive it is.

I never once needed to look at the instructions, and I was getting my back massaged in less than five minutes of opening the box.

As I mentioned, there are three types of rollers: Soft, Medium (which they call “Contour”), and Deep Tissue. The Medium roller actually has two additional rollers built in, which makes it feel even more dynamic and massage-like.

Switching between rollers is way easier than I expected. Just pop one out, pop another in, and you’re good to go.

Within seconds of turning it on for the first time, I could tell this was the real deal.

This wasn’t some gimmicky vibrating pad. The rollers actually work up and down your back with real pressure, and the sensation is surprisingly close to an actual massage.

Breaking Down the Different Modes

The Chirp Contour has three manual functions: Roll, Decompress, and Target.

I started with Roll, which does exactly what you’d expect – the rollers move up and down your back in a continuous motion.

Even just this basic function feels great. The fact that there are three different pressure levels (via the different rollers) is huge, because what feels good one day might be too intense or too light another day.

I will say, even the soft roller on the highest pressure setting felt like I was getting a legitimate massage. Not a “this is kind of nice” massage. An actual, real massage.

I think I was expecting this to be more akin to like massage setting in a luxury car. You know, where you can kind of feel it, but it’s definitely not a massage? 

Safe to say, this is not that.

Where the Magic Really Happens: Decompression Mode

But the Decompression setting? That’s where things get really interesting.

In this mode, the rollers slowly work up and down your spine, but they push up at each vertebra to give your back a stretch.

The first time I used this mode and stood up afterward, I felt multiple pops in my back – the good kind of pops.

It genuinely feels like it’s decompressing your spine, and after a long day on the course (or honestly, just sitting at a desk for hours), this mode is incredible.

Target Mode: Precision Where You Need It

The Target mode is exactly what you’d expect.

You can use the up and down arrows on the remote to position the rollers exactly where you want them, and then they’ll stay in that spot and work on that specific area.

Switching out the rollers definitely gives you a different experience in this mode. The deep tissue roller in particular can really dig in when you’re targeting a specific knot or problem area.

Fair warning, though: I got a little too enthusiastic on my first day and spent about 20 minutes with the deep tissue roller. That was probably too much, because I could definitely feel it the next day.

Start slow, especially with the deep tissue option.

What I Love About the Chirp Contour

The heat function is surprisingly effective. I wasn’t expecting much from this feature, but it’s actually a really nice touch – especially during the off-season when it’s colder. The heat noticeably helps loosen up a tight back before the rollers even start working, and gets warmer than I’d expected.

It actually feels like a high-end massage chair. When you have both the neck and back rollers going at the same time, the experience is shockingly close to what I felt in that $13,000 chair at the Oregon State Fair. Ok, obviously it’s not exactly the same, but it’s closer than you’d think.

The custom modes work really well. There are three preset programs: Warm Up, Recover, and Relax. If you just want to sit down and zone out while it does its thing, these are great. The Warm Up starts easy and gets more vigorous, while the Relax starts harder and gets easier over time. I personally prefer manual control, but I know my wife loves just hitting one button and letting it run through a full cycle.

It’s discreet. This might sound silly, but having this tucked under the bed is way less embarrassing than having a massive massage chair taking up half your living room.

A Few Things to Keep in Mind

Here are a few things I’ve noticed after using the Contour every day for the past week, that are worth noting.

You Can Adjust for Your Height. This is the only thing I didn’t fully understand right out of the box. I didn’t realize you could adjust the location of the neck rollers depending on your height. Simply use the up and down arrows for the neck setting, and you can dial it in based on how tall you are.

This is really helpful, because before we realized this, the roller would go too low hitting my wife’s tailbone in an uncomfortable way. Once we realized you could adjust the neck location, we were all good.

I’m 6′ 1″ and even at its tallest setting, I do wish the roller would go one step lower on my back, but that’s a pretty minor critique.

The rollers themselves will adjust their height and pressure automatically for your body which seems to work really well.

The weight limit is 250 pounds. This is something to be aware of before you buy. It’s not a dealbreaker for most people, but if you’re close to or over that limit, it’s worth knowing upfront.

Finding your sweet spot takes a minute. You’ll likely need to adjust your body position a bit to get everything lined up perfectly, especially for your neck. It’s not difficult, but it’s not quite as “sit down and it automatically works” as a full massage chair would be.

Should You Buy the Chirp Contour?

At $599, the Chirp Contour isn’t exactly cheap.

But I think it represents genuinely good value for what you get.

This is hands down one of the best golf recovery tools I’ve used. And I’m not just saying that – both my wife and I have used this thing way more than I ever expected we would.

You could get similar results with a bit more flexibility by buying a set of Chirp wheels, but honestly? The ease and performance of the Contour mean it actually gets used in our house. The wheels sit in the closet.

If you’re serious about recovery, deal with back tightness or pain regularly, and want something that’s going to get consistent use, I think the Chirp Contour is absolutely worth the investment.

It’s not a $13,000 massage chair.

But for most of us, it doesn’t need to be.

This is actually a pretty killer deal. 

While it’s not a discount on the Contour itself, right now they’re offering a free RPM Mini ($150 value) if you buy a new Contour.

While I haven’t reviewed the Mini, we did review the original Chirp RPM, and had a great experience.

This kind of feels like it truly fills out your massage needs. The Contour is fantastic for back and neck, but the RPM Mini will allow you to work more easily on your arms and legs in a way that the Contour simply isn’t built to do.

This is one of the better bonuses I’ve seen thrown in for a product recently. I have no idea how long this offer will last, so if it’s appealing to you, it’s probably worth picking up sooner rather than later.

9.4 Fantastic

Given it's size and price I didn't expect a ton out of the Chirp Contour. I was thinking glorified vibrating pad, or maybe a massage similar to that in a luxury cart seat. But wow, this thing is legit. It gives you a truly impressive massage experience, and is hands down one of the best recovery tools I've tested. And if you can snag it with the free RPM Mini thrown in? It becomes an even better deal.

The Good

The Bad

1. Relatively low weight limit of 250 pounds
