The Meadow Valleys Course at Blackwolf Run was the second round I played on my first ever golf road trip. It’s a wonderful experience, and shouldn’t be missed on a trip to Kohler. This post was originally published in November 2013, and has been updated in March 2022 for accuracy. After a beautiful (and difficult) round at The Bull at Pinehurst Farms in the morning, I made the 5-minute drive over to Blackwolf Run. I’d be playing the River Course the next day, but I was pretty excited to play Meadow Valleys as I’d heard numerous times that it was…

I always tend to read more when I travel. As I gear up for my first trip in nearly two years (thanks, COVID), I’ve started stockpiling my iPad for some airport reading material, and I figured I’d share the best golf books I’ve read in my 10 years as a golf blogger. There are so many good ones that span everything from instruction, travel, the PGA tour, and beyond. My goal with this post was to create a list of the very best golf books out there, so regardless of what type of golf book you’re looking for, you’ll see…

Update April 2022: I still love this shoe. 4 years after this was originally published in July 2018, I still wear them on a regular basis. But the new Ecco Biom C4 is my new favorite shoe. — I’m going to come right out and say it: the Ecco Biom Hybrid 3 is my favorite golf shoe I’ve ever owned. Period. Does it have the flash and the look of the Nike Flyknit Racer G? No. Does it have the stability of the Footjoy Tour-S? Nope. But is it the best all around performer when you factor in comfort, looks,…

I first heard rumblings of the Precision Pro R1 rangefinder nearly two years ago, and from the jump, I was intrigued. No, that doesn’t accurately describe how I felt. I was legit excited. Precision Pro was promising a smart rangefinder, that combined a traditional rangefinder with GPS capabilities. On top of that, they were hinting at an extra layer of personalization, as well. I’ll be honest, I had my doubts that the product would live up to expectations. I’ve always been very impressed with the products Precision Pro has put out for their price point. But they’re still a small startup company. And…

These days there are countless diet strategies out there. Between keto, paleo, low carb, intermittent fasting, meal planning and dozens of others – there’s no shortage of different ways to try and lose weight. I’ve never really adhered to a specific diet, but I’ve always been intrigued by the concept of intermittent fasting. The idea is you only eat during a specific window during the days to get your body to more effectively burn fat rather than carbs. For instance, all your food intake might be between 11am and 7pm. And you fast the other 16 hours of the day. When…

Every golfer dreams of playing TPC Sawgrass. Each May March (that still feels weird) we watch The Players, we see the drama, and we marvel at the best golfers in the world. And don’t get me started on how many times I’ve teed it up already in various Tiger Woods video games. When it comes to public golf resorts in the US, there are only a handful that I think truly fall into the category of “bucket list” territory. Pebble Beach Whistling Straits Bandon Dunes Pinehurst #2 TPC Sawgrass Obviously, there are dozens of other fantastic public golf courses out…

Until recently, I’d never visited an all-inclusive resort. I didn’t know what free 24 hour room service was. I hadn’t been to a place where you could walk up to any one of a dozen bars or restaurants, order anything, and then just walk away. I’d never envisioned a place where there were delicious snacks and deserts at all hours of the day for your taking. That is, until I spent a few days at the Secrets Cap Cana resort outside Punta Cana, Dominican Republic. But if you’re a golfer, is it worth staying here? The answer? It depends. Let’s see…

Many people consider it sacrilege to come to Scotland and play anything other than a links style golf course. To those people I say, you clearly haven’t played Loch Lomond Golf Club outside Glasgow. Of all the rounds on my last Scotland trip, this was probably the one I was most excited for (and yes, I even had The Old Course on the line up this go around). Why was I so excited for it? For one, it’s arguably the most exclusive course in Europe, so there aren’t many people I know who have had the chance to play it.…

I’ll be honest, when I was first approached about covering Lyle and Scott apparel – I wasn’t familiar with the UK brand. There are a lot of brands that play up their heritage and historic pedigree. For instance, Gap has 1969 emblazoned on a lot of its apparel. 1972 for Nike. Well, they’ve got nothing on Lyle and Scott. 148 years. That’s right, Lyle and Scott has been around since 1874 – that’s a long time. So why have I never heard of them? Well first off, they’re a UK brand and they’ve only just recently started making a push…

Since starting Breaking Eighty in 2012, I’ve seen a lot of brands come and go. I don’t think people realize just how difficult it actually is to build a successful apparel business in the golf industry. It’s even more difficult to build an apparel brand that’s bucking trends, doing things differently than other companies, and most importantly – doing it well. This is what continues to impress me most about Redvanly Golf. I’ve known Andrew Redvanly for over 7 years now. Each year I check out their latest line of clothes, and without fail, every year since 2014 – it’s continued to…
