I wouldn’t call the Sunday Golf Coaster Travel Bag the best golf travel bag I’ve ever used.
But here’s the thing: It’s the one I’ve grabbed for every trip lately.
There’s something about it that just works (I’ll tell you what that something is in just a minute).
When it comes to golf travel bags, I’ve learned there’s no such thing as perfect. Some are built like tanks but weigh a ton. Some are roomy but awkward. Some make travel a breeze but sacrifice protection.
The Coaster doesn’t check every single box. There are a few quirks that bug me. But it also nails a handful of things that I absolutely love — enough that it keeps earning the spot as my go-to for golf trips.
Let me break it down for you with my experiences, both good and bad, over multiple trips with the Sunday Coaster.
First Impressions of the Sunday Golf Coaster Travel Bag
Personally, I think this Coaster travel bag looks great. It’s all black. No wild color blocking. No loud accents. It’s understated in the best way.
If you’re someone who likes bold colors or big logos, this probably isn’t your bag. But that’s not me. I’m not trying to make a statement when I’m walking through the airport with my clubs. I just want something that looks clean and travels well.
One thing that stood out right away is the zipper layout. With travel bags, you generally get one of two styles:
- The “down the middle” zipper, where the bag splits open like a clamshell. (Clubglove Club Traveler and Sun Mountain Club Glider).
- The “suitcase-style” zipper, which wraps around the side. (Ghost AWOL).
The Coaster uses that second style, and I’ve come to prefer it. Bags that open down the middle always feel tight. You try to squeeze in shoes or a jacket and end up wrestling the zipper shut.
This one flips open from the side, and you suddenly have way more room to work with.
It’s a small design choice that makes a big difference.
There is so much space in the Coaster travel bag. It was by far the easiest travel bag to pack (and repack) that I've used. And that alone makes it worth considering.

Space and Storage — The Game Changer
Here’s the real reason the Coaster has become my go-to: Space.
It’s got more room than just about any travel bag I’ve used. That includes Club Glove, the Sun Mountain ClubGlider, you name it.
On quick weekend trips, that extra space doesn’t matter much. But for longer golf getaways? It’s a lifesaver.
A few weeks ago, I took a full weeklong trip through Nova Scotia. Five rounds of golf, dinners, hiking, even some workouts. The weather was all over the place, so I had to pack rain gear too.
The Coaster handled everything.
The main compartment alone is roomy, but what really sets it apart is the zip-off compression cube at the top. I haven’t seen another bag with anything quite like it.
To be honest, the “zip-off” part doesn’t matter much to me. Some people might like using it as a mini suitcase to carry into the hotel, but I use it for something way more important. Shoes.
Without breaking a sweat, I fit three pairs of size-12 shoes in that top cube. Then I fit another pair (or two) plus my rain gear in the main section.
That’s five pairs of shoes, comfortably packed, along with my clubs and everything else.
In most bags, I struggle to jam in two pairs of shoes.
And yeah, five pairs of shoes might sound excessive. But on a trip like the one I just took, that’s two pairs of golf shoes, dress shoes, workout shoes, and flip-flops. Not so crazy for a full week on and off the course.
That’s the magic of the Coaster. It gives me the freedom to pack for every part of the golf trip, without compromise.
Solid Build Quality, But Not Quite Bulletproof
Right out of the box, the Coaster feels sturdy. The top section, especially. Lots of padding, definitely more than most bags I’ve used. You get the sense your clubs are definitely protected.
That said, it doesn’t feel quite as indestructible as the Club Glove systems. Close, but not the same bulletproof feel.
One thing I noticed: When the bag’s fully packed, especially with a few pairs of shoes in that upper pocket, it doesn’t always stand upright on its own. If you’re checking in at the airport and try to balance it next to you, it has a tendency to tip.
Again, a lot of that may have to do with weight distribution and how much stuff I tend to cram in there.
Not a dealbreaker. Just something to be aware of.
Coaster Travel Bag Handle Configuration
The handle setup is solid overall. There are five different grab points, and most of them are well-positioned. The only thing missing is a true center handle on top. The spot where you instinctively want to grab and lift.
There are a couple of handles on the compression cube that sort of work for that, but the balance is just a little off.
Still, they’re an improvement over the setup on the Ghost Golf AWOL bag, which has a similar handle configuration but to me feels more awkward.
Rolling the Coaster around is where this bag really shines. The wheels glide smoothly, and the main pull handle feels robust and confident in your hand.
That said, while the rolling feature is well executed with the Coaster, it’s definitely not the best option for that…
Comparing the Coaster to Sun Mountain’s ClubGlider System
Like I said, I’ve got no complaints about how the Coaster rolls. The wheels are smooth, sturdy, and make travel easy.
But every single time I’m dragging it through an airport, I catch myself wishing it had that ClubGlider system from Sun Mountain.
To be fair, I wish every travel bag had the ClubGlider system. That’s how awesome I think it is.
If you’ve never used one, let me explain. The ClubGlider has an extra set of retractable wheels that pop out when you need them. Suddenly, you’re rolling on four wheels instead of two, and the difference is insane. It’s just complete and total effortless stability.
You can push or pull it with one finger. I’m not exaggerating. My 4-year-old can move that thing through the airport with complete ease.
That system is the reason I’ve leaned on my Sun Mountain bag for the last couple of years. Even though it’s a bit smaller and not quite as durable as some others, that convenience is tough to beat.
The Sunday Golf Coaster doesn’t have that extra set of wheels, and yeah, I miss it. But it does make up for it with a few smart touches.
One of my favorites is a hidden pocket built specifically for an AirTag.
If you’ve ever had luggage go missing, you know how big of a deal that is. Sure, you can toss an AirTag in your golf bag easily enough, but I’ve found that having a dedicated spot for it is just really nice.
Should You Buy the Sunday Golf Coaster Travel Bag?
So you’re probably thinking, “Alright, that all sounds great, but which travel bag should I actually buy?”
It’s like I said: There’s just no one perfect golf travel bag.
But the Sunday Golf Coaster has definitely earned a permanent spot in my rotation.

At roughly $275, the Coaster is a strong value. It’s cheaper than the comparable Club Glove, Sun Mountain ClubGlider, or Ghost Golf AWOL bags.
If space is what you care about most, the Coaster is your bag. If you like to pack extra shoes, rain gear, or gifts and not stress about running out of room, the Coaster makes that easy. It’s bigger than any other travel bag I’ve tested, and that freedom to just throw it all in is awesome.
And the fact that it’s cheaper than its competitors makes it even better.
On the other hand, if you pack light or travel with a smaller carry bag, I’d still go with the Sun Mountain ClubGlider. That four-wheel system is just so convenient. Every time I’m in the airport with the Coaster, I miss the ClubGlider. But when I arrive and unpack everything I brought, I remember why I chose the Coaster.
Here’s how I see it:
- Shorter trips, lighter loads: Sun Mountain ClubGlider
- Longer trips, heavy packers: Sunday Golf Coaster
- Most durable: Club Glove
- Solid but not my style: Ghost Golf AWOL
For me, the two I’ve enjoyed the most are the Sunday Golf Coaster and the Sun Mountain ClubGlider.
At the end of the day, it all comes down to how you travel. But I’ll definitely say this: If you want maximum space and flexibility, the Coaster’s hard to beat.
