The Forresters x Payntr Rainshedder Shoes are Phenomenal

Look no further, your favorite off season golf shoe is here.

Forresters has been on an absolute tear lately. Their Range Hoodie exceeded expectations. Their raingear? Same story. So when they announced a partnership with Payntr – a brand that’s consistently impressed me with their footwear – I had high hopes.

And let me be clear: they delivered.

The Rainshedder RS1 isn’t just another winter golf shoe. It’s the winter golf shoe.

The Spiritual Successor to the Nike Air Bandon

A few weeks ago, I talked about how the TRUE Linkswear Ascent had taken the torch from the old Nike Air Bandon as the ultimate Pacific Northwest golf shoe. And while those are fantastic shoes, it’s the RS1 that actually feels like the true spiritual successor to those legendary Bandons.

The TRUE shoes are great on the golf course, but feel tailored to using off the course as well.

With the Rainshedder RS1, this is a tour-level, all season shoe built exclusively for the golf course.

    A Unique, but Familiar, Design

These are a very unique-looking golf shoe, but in the best possible way.

The Forresters logo on the side of the RS1 looks sharp, and I love the complementary designs on the sole; one shoe rocks “Forresters” as a nice touch. The tartan on the insoles is a great callback to some of their apparel design language from this first season.

The tartan on the insoles is a nice touch.

If you’re familiar with Payntr’s lineup, you’ll immediately recognize the silhouette. Without the zippered shroud, this could easily be mistaken for their Eighty Seven SC shoes. But that zipper? That’s what transforms this from a standard performance shoe into a true off-season golf weapon.

    The Technology Behind the Comfort

With these shoes, Payntr added a booty insert to amp up the waterproofness, and honestly, it also amps up the comfort significantly. The moment I slipped my feet in, I audibly said “oh wow.” They were more comfortable than I expected, right out of the box.

And they stayed that way through a full 18 holes. I’m a size 12 and they fit me perfectly, but they suggest you size down if you’re in between sizes.

Here’s the full tech spec list:

    • CLARINO Trivela Microfiber upper
    • WATERPROOF+ RAINSHEDDER® Breathable membrane & gasket
    • KNIT tongue fit system with integrated zipper shroud closure
    • TPU outsole with Fast Twist / Tour Flex Pro spike
    • PMXNitro+ Midsole
    • PMXNitro+ Footbed
    • PMXSPEED PLT

The nitrogen-infused footbed is a real standout that truly makes these a joy to walk in.

    Performance Where It Counts

I played 18 on a dewy November day, and my feet stayed bone dry. The shoes were super planted and as stable as any of the other spiked Payntr shoes I’ve tested.

I don’t believe these shoes have the same carbon fiber footplate as some other high-end Payntr models, but in practice, I can’t say I noticed a major difference there. The stability and traction were exactly what I needed for wet Pacific Northwest conditions.

I personally didn’t need any break in period with these shoes. Nothing rubbed weird, and I didn’t have any blisters. This kind of surprised me for such a stable shoe, durable shoe – but obviously I’m not complaining.

Why This Collab Makes Perfect Sense

This collaboration caught me off guard, but it probably shouldn’t have. Both brands are based in Portland, and there’s been a big hole in the market for a truly four-season golf shoe.

TRUE has done a great job with their Ascent, but these feel like they’re built for a diehard golfer, where those feel more like an “any day” off season golf shoe – in keeping with TRUE’s overall style. The RS1 is purpose-built for the golfer who refuses to let weather dictate their tee times.

One practical note: cleaning them is super easy. They wiped off with no problem after that dewy round.

    The Verdict

At $220, these aren’t cheap. But the value is very much there. You’re not only getting the best performing all-season shoe I’ve ever tested, but you’re getting one of the most hyped golf shoes of the year by people in the know.

They look good, perform even better, and if you’re planning on playing a bunch of off-season golf? Look no further. Your new perfect shoe is right here.

    9.5 Fantastic

This is the stuff perfect collaborations are made of. Both Payntr and Forrester's have leaned into the things they do best with this shoe, and the result is one of the best shoes I've tested all year. It won't be for everyone, but if you golf frequently in inclement weather? You'll want to give these a look.

    The Good
    1. Fantastic construction and materials
    2. Unique touches and elements across the whole shoe
    3. Very comfortable
    4. Traction is great
    5. Super waterproof with the zippered shroud
    The Bad
    1. Looks may not to be to everyone's taste
    2. Fairly expensive for a shoe you won't wear year round
