The Holderness and Bourne Wallace Hoodie is a Modern Classic

    The Ultimate Country Club Hoodie.

Walk into any top 100 private club in the Northeast on a cool fall morning, and I’d bet money you’ll see at least three of these.

The Holderness & Bourne Wallace Hoodie has become something of a phenomenon in certain golf circles. At this year’s PGA Show, I’m not sure there’s a single item I saw more of than this hoodie.

    And for good reason.

This is the evolution of Holderness & Bourne’s iconic Ward sweater, the piece that popularized the quilted diamond jacquard look in golf apparel years ago. The Wallace takes that same signature pattern and puts it into hoodie form.

The result? Probably the easiest hoodie to actually dress up if that’s what you’re going for.

Let me break down why this has become so popular, and whether it lives up to the hype.

First Impressions of the Holderness & Bourne Wallace Hoodie

The Wallace is unmistakably Holderness & Bourne.

That signature diamond jacquard pattern is woven right into the fabric—not printed, not quilted on top, but actually knit into the 100% Egyptian cotton. It’s a subtle texture that catches the light just right and instantly elevates this beyond your standard hoodie.

This is a bit more formal than something like the B.Draddy Andy. Where the Andy strikes a balance between casual and elevated, the Wallace leans harder into that refined, country club aesthetic.

If you’re looking to dress things up while still being in what is technically a sweatshirt, this is the move.

The ribbed side panels are a nice touch that creates a more tailored fit through the torso. And the overall construction is exactly what you’d expect from Holderness & Bourne – meticulous attention to detail and premium materials throughout.

The range of refined colorways means there’s something for everyone, whether you prefer classic navy and grey or want to branch out into their seasonal colors.

At this year's PGA Show I'm not sure there's a single item I saw more of, than the Holderness and Bourne Wallace Hoodie. And for good reason, it's one of the best looking hoodies out there.

    Fit and Materials

Here’s where I need to be honest: the fit can be a little tricky.

I found the medium to be just slightly tight on me at 6’1″ and 205 pounds. The large on the other hand, is slightly loose. Neither was unwearable, but neither was perfect either.

This is something to keep in mind as you’re ordering. Think about whether you prefer a more fitted look (size down) or a more relaxed fit (size up). There’s not really a wrong answer – it just depends on your preference and body type.

The 100% Egyptian cotton feels substantial and premium. This isn’t a lightweight performance hoodie, as it’s designed for warmth without bulk. The diamond jacquard pattern adds texture and visual interest while also providing a bit of insulation.

It’s the kind of piece that signals quality the moment you put it on. The weight feels right. The fabric feels expensive. And the construction is built to last.

One thing worth noting: this is cotton, not a moisture-wicking synthetic. So it’s not what you want if you’re playing in hot weather or tend to sweat heavily. But for cool mornings and crisp fall days? It’s perfect.

How Well Does It Work to Actually Golf In?

The Wallace performs exactly as you’d expect from a premium cotton hoodie.

The fit allows for good range of motion through the swing. Those ribbed side panels actually do help with mobility, and I never felt restricted during the round. The cut through the shoulders and chest is generous enough that nothing binds up.

From an aesthetic standpoint on the course, this is as good as it gets. You look polished and put-together. This is the hoodie you wear when you want to fit in at more traditional clubs while still embracing the hoodie trend.

The warmth is excellent for those cool morning tee times when the temperature is in the 50s. It provides real insulation without being too heavy or bulky. As the day warms up, it’s easy enough to tie around your waist or stash in your bag. But it is slightly bulkier than say some more performance-oriented hoodies, like say the Redvanly Larkin. So if the garment pocket on your golf bag is small, you might need to do some cramming.

The Egyptian cotton breathes well enough that you won’t overheat on mild days, but again – this isn’t a performance fabric. If it’s warm or you’re someone who runs hot, you’ll want something else.

Final Thoughts on this Holdernsss & Bourne Hoodie

The Holderness & Bourne Wallace Hoodie gets my award for “Most Popular Hoodie” – and it’s easy to see why.

This is the hoodie that’s become a status symbol in certain golf circles. It’s refined enough for the most traditional clubs. The quality is exceptional. And that signature diamond jacquard pattern is instantly recognizable to anyone who knows golf apparel.

I love the guys behind Holderness & Bourne. They’ve built a brand around quality craftsmanship and timeless design, and the Wallace is a perfect example of that philosophy.

At $215, it’s positioned right in that premium-but-not-crazy range. You’re paying for the Holderness & Bourne name, that signature design, and truly excellent construction. If you value that classic, refined golf aesthetic and want a hoodie that fits seamlessly into more traditional golf culture, it’s worth every penny.

The fit issue I mentioned is worth considering, but it’s not a dealbreaker. Just be thoughtful about your sizing preference when ordering.

If you want a hoodie that works at country clubs, looks great with chinos or khakis, and signals that you take your golf style seriously, the Wallace is your pick. It’s probably the easiest hoodie to really dress up if that’s what you’re going for.

And judging by how many of these I see everywhere I go? A lot of people agree.

I have one and love it. However it’s a hand wash only product. Fatal flaw. How many of us golfers have an extensive pile of articles that we hand wash? That alone may be worth steering clear. If you run it through the machine you risk ruining a super pricey piece.

This is an excellent point, and honestly, not something I really considered with my review. Will take that into account in future updates.
