My 5 Favorite Spiked Golf Shoes Right Now

The spiked golf shoes I actually wear when performance matters most.

Over the last five years, I’ve tested more than 50 pairs of golf shoes. Fifty!

That may sound a bit excessive, and I get it. When I look back on it, it’s kind of nuts.

But it also means that I’ve got some real-use opinions to share. And today I’m giving you my picks for what I think are the best spiked shoes currently available.

I’ve worn all of these. I’ve played golf in all of these. And I’ve sorted through the good-but-not-quite-great options to pare it down to just my favorites.

So if you’re looking for the absolute best when it comes to traction, stability, and everything a spiked golf shoe brings to the table, keep reading. This post is for you.

    Table of Contents

    • 1. G/FORE MG4+ 02 G/Lock – My Current Favorite Spiked Golf Shoe
    • 2. Payntr Eighty Seven SC – The Trendiest Spiked Golf Shoe
    • 3. Nike Air Zoom Infinity Tour Next% 2 – The Best Athletic Spike Shoe
    • 4. G/FORE Gallivanter G/LOCK – The Best-Looking Spiked Shoe
    • 5. FootJoy HyperFlex – The Most Comfortable Tour-Level Shoe
    • Two More Honorable Mentions
    • FootJoy DryJoy Premiere
    • Adidas Tour 360
    • So, What Are You Wearing?

    1. G/FORE MG4+ 02 G/Lock – My Current Favorite Spiked Golf Shoe

If I could only wear one pair of spiked shoes, this would be it.

I’m typically more of a spikeless guy. More casual. But these are in my regular rotation because they just do everything well.

Comfort? Check. They’ve got the nubbed massaging insoles that G/FORE is famous for. Sounds weird if you’ve never tried them, but it’s legit. Your feet get little massages with every step.

Waterproofing? I’ve played in wet conditions with zero issues.

Traction and stability? Excellent. Not quite Adidas Tour 360 levels of stability, but close enough that it doesn’t matter.

Looks? Really good. At least I think so.

    That’s a ridiculous name, by the way. G/FORE MG4+ 02 G/LOCK. I know.

When I’m taking golf trips, I almost always bring one spikeless pair and one spiked pair. These are usually the spiked pair. And when I’m home, I bounce between these and the Payntr Eighty Seven SCs most often.

The other shoes on this list still get rotation. But these G/FOREs are at the top for good reason.

Use code G4BREAKING8010 to save 10% on your first G/FORE order.

Really, any of the G/FORE shoes could be considered for a "most comfortable" list. And this G/Lock model adds exceptional grip and stability to that plush fit.

    2. Payntr Eighty Seven SC – The Trendiest Spiked Golf Shoe

    Payntr Eighty Seven SC Shoes

Payntr’s having a moment right now.

You’re seeing them everywhere. For a brand that started out as mostly tech-focused, they’ve now caught fire as a trendy brand known for their aesthetics as much as their performance.

And the Eighty Seven SC is their best-looking model.

This shoe came out last year as a collaboration with Jason Day. That’s where the name comes from (he was born in 1987). And it marked a shift for Payntr.

For their first few years, they were purely about performance. Nitrogen-infused footbeds. Carbon fiber plates. All the tech that you could think of, that’s what they were known for.

The shoes looked fine, but pretty similar to each other. Nothing groundbreaking style-wise.

The Eighty Seven SC changed that. It’s still got all the technical performance, but it also looks awesome.

Now, if you’re purely chasing performance and don’t care about looks, check out the X Tour Proto RS. That’s what Justin Rose wore when he won the FedEx St. Jude Championship this year. And he’s not sponsored. So he could wear any shoe he wanted, and he chose Payntr.

That tells you everything about the quality.

But the Eighty Seven SC gives you the performance and the style. That’s why it’s number two for me.

They also make a spikeless version if you prefer that.

Payntr takes all of the tech and performance they're known for and applies it to their best-looking shoe yet. Highly recommended.

    3. Nike Air Zoom Infinity Tour Next% 2 – The Best Athletic Spike Shoe

    Nike Golf is back.

I said that a few months ago, and these were the shoes that made me believe it.

I grew up in Eugene, Oregon, the birthplace of Nike. So I’m a fanboy at heart. But for years, they just weren’t doing anything interesting in golf. Nothing that made me excited to wear their stuff.

    The Infinity Tours changed that.

That’s quite a name, by the way. Nike Air Zoom Infinity Tour Next% 2. Wow.

But who really cares when the shoe is this solid? If you want something that feels more like a running shoe than a traditional tour shoe (in looks and comfort), this is what you’re looking for.

They’re comfortable. They look great. And the performance is there.

Nike’s got some other solid models right now. The Scottie Scheffler shoe. The Victory Pro 4. Rory’s Victory Tour. All of those are excellent options. Like I said, I feel good about where Nike Golf is heading.

But these are my favorites from their current lineup. They’re the most comfortable and best looking. Just really well done.

Good to see Nike back in the game.

This is the rare golf shoe that feels locked-in tour stable and yet completely comfortable. I don't know how they pulled it off, but it's leading me to believe that Nike Golf may be "back"!

    4. G/FORE Gallivanter G/LOCK – The Best-Looking Spiked Shoe

    G/FORE Gallivanter G/LOCK Shoes

If you want a traditional aesthetic with modern flair, these are it.

    I love this shoe.

Classic leather look, but with contemporary features and colorways that keep it from feeling stuffy or boring.

When I wear these, I feel like a golfer. Not in a cheesy way. They’re just confidence-inspiring. And, hey, that matters when you’re trying to play well.

Now, comfort-wise, these aren’t at the top of my list. But they’re still very comfortable. Just not quite as plush as some of the others.

What they might lack in ultimate comfort, they make up for in looks. Because, I mean, they just look awesome.

If you use code G4BREAKING8010, you can save 10% on anything G/FORE sells.

    5. FootJoy HyperFlex – The Most Comfortable Tour-Level Shoe

    FootJoy HyperFlex

The HyperFlex changed my mind about FootJoy.

I’ll be honest. I’ve never really been a FootJoy guy.

I know that for a lot of people, FootJoy is the end-all, be-all when it comes to golf shoes. And I get that. They’ve been on top for a long time.

I actually thought the FootJoy Flex was a decent spikeless option. But other models I’ve tried? Not great. Enough so that, well, I’ve just never really been big on FootJoy.

    Then I wore the HyperFlex.

And I can say without a doubt that these are the best FootJoy shoes I’ve ever put on my feet. They’re ridiculously comfortable. They’re waterproof. And they’re super stable.

The looks are… well, they’re very FootJoy. Some people will love that and some won’t.

I personally think they look pretty good. But even if you’re not sold on the look, the performance definitely impresses.

FootJoy is one of the giants in golf footwear. They’ve been doing it forever, and some golfers won’t even consider another brand. If that’s you, the HyperFlex is an obvious choice.

But even if you’re not a FootJoy person (like I wasn’t), these are still worth considering.

I took these shoes on a recent trip to Vietnam, and they handled everything I threw at them. I came home a believer.

This is the most well-rounded FootJoy shoe I've worn to date. The HyperFlex delivers excellent stability, all-weather performance, and great comfort with a surprisingly stylish look. And the price, relative to the competition, isn't bad either.

    Two More Honorable Mentions

There’s two other shoes that aren’t on my current list, but I feel like I need to mention them – as I know a lot of people swear by them.

    FootJoy DryJoy Premiere

FooyJoy Golf Shoe - DryJoy Premier

This is one of the most iconic golf shoes on the market. I know so many golfers who wear them regularly and swear by them.

Here’s the thing, though. I’ve never actually worn them.

I’ll get to them, I’m sure. But for now, I’m including these FootJoys as an honorable mention because reputation clearly suggests they deserve some consideration. I can’t upgrade them to my top five because, not having worn them, I can’t personally confirm whether they belong.

But they’re too popular to leave off this list entirely. So there you go.

    A Golf Shoe Icon
    FootJoy Premiere
    FootJoy Premiere
    Starting at $199.99

I've got to keep it real: I haven't personally tested these golf shoes - yet. But I know a lot of people who swear by them. And if you're a FootJoy loyalist, these are as iconic as it gets.

    Buy from Golf Galaxy
We earn a commission if you click this link and make a purchase at no additional cost to you.

    Adidas Tour 360

These are the previous generation of the Adidas Tour 360.

Now these Adidas Tour 360 shoes I have worn. And they’re another one of those options that golfers I play with regularly swear by. Everyone seems to love them.

And I can definitely confirm that the stability and traction are incredible.

But I personally just don’t find them to be that comfortable. It’s not like they’re bad by any means. And once again, a ton of people swear by them. But, for me, they’re just not comfortable enough to crack my top five.

So take that for what it’s worth. I’m just one guy with one set of preferences.

Then again, I have tested more than 50 pairs of golf shoes, so there’s also that.

And that is something different than what you’ll find on the bigger review sites that employ a whole team of testers. Here, you’re getting the opinions of someone who’s had the opportunity to personally compare them all.

Maybe you see that as an advantage, or maybe as a disadvantage. But that’s where I’m coming from. One guy. Lots of shoes tested.

Alright, let’s get into my top five spiked golf shoes.

    Best Tour Shoe
    Adidas Tour 360 Shoes
    Adidas Tour 360 Shoes
    Starting at $148.99

Time and time again I've had readers tell me the Tour 360 is their favorite shoe. After wearing them? I can see why. Insane build quality and stability.

    So, What Are You Wearing?

    Those are my top five.

Every shoe on this list is a winner. I genuinely think you’d be happy with any of them, depending on what you’re looking for.

I’m still more of a spikeless guy day-to-day. But when the conditions are sloppy, or when I really want to play my best and need extra traction and stability, these are what I reach for.

Plus, they all look good. Which doesn’t hurt.

Now I want to hear from you. What spiked shoes are you wearing? What am I missing? What should I test next?

And if you’re looking for more shoe recommendations, I’ve got a complete list of the best golf shoes that I update regularly.

Or if you just want the most comfortable options regardless of style, I’ve got a post for that too.

Thanks for reading. I hope this helps you find the right pair.
