A couple weeks ago, I posted a comparison between the FlightScope Mevo Plus and the brand new Mevo Gen 2.
Generally speaking, my sentiment at the time was that you should probably buy the Mevo Gen 2.
It’s extremely similar to the Mevo Plus, has better battery life, and at least for now, is cheaper.
In that video, however, I did say that I expected to see price cuts on the Mevo Plus that would make it more attractive – and good news!
They’re here.
FlightScope just dropped the price of the Mevo Plus to the lowest price I’ve ever seen it.
Their sale price is $1499. But if you use the code BREAKINGEIGHTYPLUS it drops it down to $1424.05 – which is over $300 less than the cheapest I’ve ever seen it.
At this price, I think this is going to make a lot of sense for people.
Why?
A few reasons.
For starters, FlightScope has sold out of its initial inventory of the Mevo Gen 2. So if you were to order it today, you still wouldn’t receive it for at least a month.
Second, you can upgrade to the pro package right now.
If you’re not sure what this is, it’s the extra package that unlocks all of the club data metrics for the device.
FlightScope has all but said that it plans to release the Pro Package for the Mevo Gen 2. But it’s still in R&D, and there is no official timeline for when it’s coming. But I’d be a little surprised if we see it before the end of the year.
Third, these are extremely similar products.
If I’m being honest, I’m a little confused as to FlightScope’s strategy around the new product.
But here are the differences:
- Slightly different design, with the Gen 2 being just a little bit bigger
- The Gen 2 has a USB-C charger, and Mevo Plus has a USB mini.
- Gen 2 gets 6 hours of battery life, Mevo Plus gets about 3
- The radar panel is ever so slightly bigger on the Gen 2. The only time this really makes a difference is indoors for people in the top 5% of swing speeds.
- Mevo Plus has Pro Package and Impact Detection
- Mevo Plus has a better set of e6 courses
So all things being equal, the Mevo Gen 2 is a slightly better piece of hardware, but the battery life is really the only major difference to me.
So Should You Buy the Mevo Plus Now?
The answer? Maybe.
If you’re not in a hurry and don’t want a launch monitor right this second?
You’re probably fine to wait for the Gen 2 to get back in stock, or see if the Mevo Plus gets discounted any further for Black Friday.
From everything I’ve heard, we can expect the Gen 2 to go up from its $1199 launch price soon – the question is how much.
I’ve heard prices of anywhere from $1299 to $1499, but with tariff and supply uncertainty, I don’t know if there’s a definitive answer.
What I do know is that right now you can get a Mevo Plus for $1424, or you can get one fully loaded with Pro Package and Impact Detection for $2,350.
For the past 3 years, this has been my favorite overall launch monitor when you factor in usability, price, features, and accuracy.
Just because a new (almost identical) product was released, doesn’t change how good the Mevo Plus is.
I don’t know exactly what’s going to happen with availability, features, and prices for FlightScope products this year and into next.
But what I do know is that this is the best deal I’ve ever seen on a fantastic launch monitor.
Simply put this is the closet you're going to get to a "pro" level launch monitor at a budget price. Granted $2k isn't exactly budget, but for what you get? This is a fantastic value. Use code "BREAKINGEIGHTYPLUS" to get an additional 5% off!
