FlightScope Mevo Plus Limited Edition Review: Is it Worth It?

It’s no secret that I believe the FlightScope Mevo Plus is the best overall launch monitor for most people.

It’s accurate, feature-heavy, portable, and doesn’t have any subscriptions.

But the original Mevo Plus came out in 2020, and since then? There’s been a lot of new competition coming to market.

Really good competition at that.

As such, I’ve been curious to see how FlightScope would respond.

Would they come out with a more robust camera-based system for space-constrained golfers? 

Would they update their entry-level FlightScope Mevo?

The answer for 2024 is something else entirely – and I’m very excited for it.

Update July 2024: The Limited Edition is Sold Out*

I wanted to make this update before you get too far into this review.

As of July 2024, the Limited Edition Mevo Plus is no longer for sale through FlightScope. You know, because it actually was a “limited edition.”

It’s currently still available through select 3rd party retailers, such as Play Better. So if your heart is set on this model, that’s the only way to get it.

So what does this mean for the Mevo Plus landscape?

Well now, instead of the Limited Edition, FlightScope has given the Mevo Plus an aesthetic refresh. Their signature red is gone and the new 2024 Mevo Plus has a gray motif, similar to that of the LE model.

The retail price is $2,299, but you’ll find frequent sales dropping it down to under $2k.

The Pro Package and Impact Detection packages are still available as add-ons, but the big news about the new 2024 Mevo Plus, is that it now has the upgraded e6 course package that came with the Limited Edition.

So you’ll get free simulator access to Pebble Beach, Bethpage Black, the Old Course and more when you pick up a Mevo Plus (with no subscription!).

These are relatively minor changes, but ones you should be aware of if you’re in the market for this launch monitor.

So essentially, if you buy the latest Mevo Plus with Pro Package and Impact Detection, it’s identical to what they were selling earlier in the year as the “Limited Edition” version.

Introducing the FlightScope Mevo Plus Limited Edition

In January 2024 at the PGA Show FlightScope announced the Mevo Plus Limited Edition.

It’s nothing Earth-shattering when compared to the standard Mevo Plus, but it does address some of the complaints FlightScope critics have had in the past.

But more importantly than just the new device, it’s the new features they’re rolling out for the Mevo Plus that is the biggest reason for getting excited.

We’ll get to those in a second.

What’s Different About the FlightScope Mevo Plus Limited Edition?

To start out, we should make one thing clear – this is still the Mevo Plus. It has all of the same features and functionality of the standard model that was updated and released in 2023.

The most obvious difference is how it looks. 

The Limited Edition model got a facelift to update the design language and more prominently brand their “Fusion Tracking” feature – which is how they use a combination of both Doppler radar and a built-in camera to achieve accurate results.

This was brought down from the far more expensive X3, and has been standard for all Mevo Plus models ever since.

But most people aren’t going to buy or not buy a device like this simply because it looks different.

The Mevo Plus Limited Edition Includes Pro Package and Impact Detection

One of the major critiques I’ve heard about the Mevo Plus is that some people don’t like the ala carte pricing.

The Pro Package is a $1,000 upgrade, and the Impact Detection package is an additional $500 on top of that.

$1,500 to access features that are already built inside the hardware.

Personally, I far prefer this model than the subscription fees of most competing companies, but I get it.

So with the Limited Edition model all of this is built in.

For one price you get all of the advanced metrics and data capabilities.

And honestly, it’s pretty wild how good it is. Impact detection in particular has been spot on in all of my testing.

Special E6 Connect Course Package

Finally, the last thing that’s new with the Limited Edition Mevo Plus is a new E6 Connect course package – that is the best included package of any of the launch monitor companies out there.

Both Garmin and Rapsodo include 5 or 6 E6 courses that you can use on a mobile device only.

SkyTrak+ has as solid package of 15 courses for E6 for both PC and Mobile, but there’s a $250/year subscription fee.

With the FlightScope Mevo Plus Limited Edition, you get 12 courses you can use on both mobile and PC for zero additional fees.

And the best part?

The package includes both Pebble Beach and The Old Course. 

The Limited Edition also has Bethpage Black and Harbor Town – neither of which are included with the standard Mevo Plus.

The regular Mevo Plus features 10 courses instead of 12 – and doesn’t have quite as many in-demand ones as the Limited Edition. This is still a solid upgrade as those are two of the most in-demand sim courses out there.

So for $3,500 the Limited Edition model gives you the Mevo Plus, Pro Package, Impact Detection, and one of the best E6 packages you’ll find with any launch monitor. 

All with no subscription fees.

To me, that’s a pretty compelling deal.

So, is the Mevo Plus Limited Edition Actually a Good Deal?

With all of this, the question you should be asking yourself is “is the Mevo Plus Limited Edition actually a good deal?”

And the answer?

Maybe.

Currently, it retails for $3,499 – and theoretically, you can get 5% off for an actual price of $3,324.

FlightScope is pretty liberal with their sales throughout the year, so you should always be on the lookout for one.

In January 2024, they were running a PGA Show Special that has the following discounts:

• Mevo Plus: $1,869 off retail of $2,199
• Pro Package: $799 off retail of $1,000
• Impact Detection: $399 off retail of $499

Total retail price of all of these? $3,698.

At that price, the Limited Edition is a no-brainer.

But the total sale price? $3,067.

At that point, it could go either way. You’re essentially paying a $400+ premium to get a better course package on E6. The courses with the standard Mevo Plus are fine, but personally, aside from Wade Hampton, there’s nothing I really get excited about.

With the Limited Edition, most of the courses are ones you’d be excited about.

So if you’re planning to primarily use your device as a home simulator? This feels worth the extra money. Especially since buying courses after the fact direct through e6 is very expensive.

If we get that coupon code working and the Limited Edition price is $3,324? Then I’d absolutely spend the extra money to have Pebble, St. Andrews, Bethpage, Banff Springs, and more.

To make things even trickier?

Total: $2,931.10

And for that? Again, it depends on how much you value those extra courses. That’s a decision I’ll leave up to you.

As of February 2024, the PGA sale is over. But based on what I’ve seen FlightScope do in the past, I’d keep an eye out for another sale once the major tournaments get going over the next month or two.

That said, I wouldn’t expect to see any major sales on the Limited Edition model, so if you’re leaning towards that – I’d go ahead and buy it now. Especially since the rumors I’ve heard is that it’s likely to be sold out by the end of March.

But no matter which way you look at it, this is one of the most value-packed launch monitors on the market in 2024.

New Features for FlightScope Mevo Plus Coming Out This Year

One of the coolest things about this device is that they’re continuing to improve the product.

If you bought a Mevo Plus in 2020, that same device is night and day better than it was back then. 

Fusion Tracking was a free upgrade for everyone. 

You’ve now got the ability to get club data with the Pro Package upgrade.

And the new features that are rolling out over the next few months are going to make the device even better.

What are they? Let’s take a look.

In-Camera Live Shot Tracer

Without a doubt, one of the coolest features is the new live shot tracer.

So while you’re hitting balls on the Mevo Plus, if you have a camera/phone connected you can get an accurate shot tracker in real time of your environment.

It will even add an on-screen display for carry distance and ball speed.

No other device that I know of is able to do this, and it’s going to be a feature available to all Mevo Plus users – not just those with the Pro Package.

Environmental Optimization

The next new feature is their environmental optimizer.

Let’s say you live Los Angeles, but you have a tournament coming up next week in Denver. Obviously, due to the elevation change, your shots are going to react differently to the new location.

With the new Environmental Optimizer, you’re able to set your exact desired location on your Mevo Plus, and it will give you data based on that location.

So if you set it to Denver, you might see that you get an extra 15 yards of carry on all of your shots – since that’s what will happen in that environment.

If you travel a lot or play a lot of competitive golf, this really has the potential to elevate the accuracy of your practice sessions ahead of traveling.

FlightScope Round Planner

To build off the Environmental Optimizer, FlightScope is also rolling out a new round planner.

The concept is similar.

You’re able to select a course that you’re going to play up to 3 days in advance, and FlightScope will take the expected weather for that course, at the specific time you’re playing, as well as all other environmental data and allow you to plan out your round hole by hole.

So if you’re playing at elevation, you’ll be able to have a report that shows winds, projected carry distances, and more – and then you can decide which club is right based on all of the data it shows.

Having that extra level of planning truly gives you a leg up and gives you the best chance of shooting your lowest scores possible.

Badger AI

In 2024, AI is going to continue to be one of the most talked about topics in tech and sports – and FlightScope is leaning in.

Badger AI is essentially your own personal golf instructor.

You’ll be able to ask it simple questions like “what does this metric mean?”

But even cooler than that, it can look at your data and give feedback based on that. So it can answer coaching-related questions like “based on my 7 iron data from my last 5 sessions, what drills or practice routines would you suggest I focus on?”

It remains to be seen how accurate and genuinely useful it will be, but in some of the early demonstrations – it looks really promising.

This is the ultimate package for one of the ultimate golf launch monitor packages out there. Here you get all of the capabilities of the Mevo Plus built in, plus a fantastic simulator package. Is it the cheapest way to get into a Mevo Plus? No. But does it represent one of the best values in the entire launch monitor eco-system? Absolutely.
